Heh.. Who even plays RTS games for single player? Any RTS I've ever played has been a trivial, boring, task to beat single player. Most I don't even finish because of lack of interest. Yes, this includes starcrap. :)

TA is by far, still the best RTS I've ever played. This is based soley on multiplayer. As this is all I care about anyways.

Just the vast battles I'd have would be fun enough. I mean, we'd have 6 hour long games with this thing if two people decided to hole up. Plus they used 3d models, which greatly improved things over sprites IMO. I guess I was one of the few who hated starcraft. All that game is is a re-work of WC2. They should have called in Warcraft In Space or something. Every single unit almost has a direct correlation with a WC2 unit, it's downright pathetic. Especially for the length of time it took them to market the thing.

ah well, peace.

I never liked TA, it was fun for about as long as I was impressed by the graphics and the number of different units.

But once I realized there was more like a few different units with different sized I got tired of it, and the unlimited resources idea, along with metal makers/fusion plants is way stupid.

AoE 1 was pretty decent though too slow paced for me, AoE2 sucked so hard, was just like AoE1 cept it obviously wasnt as original as AoE1 was in its days of glory.

StarCraft OTOH had a GREAT single player storyline, 3 races that not only had different units, but entirely different ways of playing, and they were very balanced, to this day there still isnt any clear winner among them, amazing!

AOE1 was just plain bad. No unit queing, rally points, and lack of a good hotkey system. AOE2 is by far the most advanced RTS game made.

It plays awesome on the net. I played a 4v4 8 player game on the zone. All players had a 600mhz or faster cpu. Pings were under 750ms. The game play was fast and lag free. Try that with AOE1. Try that with any Westwood RTS.

WW makes the worst RTS games known to man.

Mmmh TA. In the last second I decided NOT to get Dark Reign and buy TA instead - a wise decision. The graphics are, to this day, among the best of the isometric RTS genre. The music is extremely cool, too, really encouraging. I don't really know about the gameplay - I suck at RTS, and can't really say which game has the most strategical depth. It was fun, though, pretty much the last RTS game I actually liked to play.

Besides, the concept of a pre-rendered background with 3d objects on it is awesome, that is until 3d acceleration is good enough to real-time render in a comparable quality (ie. not for some time). See Pool Of Radiance 2 for another game using that kind of graphics.
