I'm a bit partial to Nikon since I've had their cameras for years, but I also like the Canons point and shoot ones.

For point and shoot perhaps, but when you get into DSLRs, Cannon and Nikon are definitely the winners.

I'm currently using a sony mavica CD-500, I'm thinking about upgrading to a Cannon Digital Rebel XT.

EDIT: If you're interested in the mavica (burns pictures to CD) pm me!

I'll freely admit I'm a Canon whore. :p

I've had my S1 IS for just about a year now and I absolutely love it. It has its shortcomings as does everything, but overall it's the perfect package for me. Probably won't be upgrading for a very long time, because to get something noticeably better than what I've already got (most notably 10x optical zoom and the high quality 640x480 video recording), I'd have to spend a lot more money and move up into DSLR territory, and that just isn't a money pit I want to get into. Not to mention I would lose the video recording :p

"Canon (body) for quality, Nikon for glass (lens)"

that saying has been around eversince the beginning of the battle between canon and nikon. Of course this applies to SLRs and DSLRs only. Hardcore professionals have modified nikon lenses just to fit canon bodies. But i think L-series canon lenses are just fine.

Point and shoot will be Canon - nobody else has a better image processor (digic II) and a package that others may fit into a small point and shoot camera. If you guys think sony has great p&s cameras - look at the canon's sd line of cameras.

IMO Sony is just straight up junk; the quality of the image is just horrible. I am sorry to offend any sony p&s owners but i believe there is a lot of you on this forum.

The only reason why some people don't like Canon is becasue of the vivid colorness it provides - its just too much for their eyes =P.

Canon for me, both thier consumer 'point and shoot' and pro quality DSLR camera's are very good.

I know most people will disagree or won't even know about their line, but for prosumer camera's, you can't beat Panasonic's Lumix line. I assume you know what prosumer is, but if not, it's in between a point and shoot and a SLR.

It's not just because I have one, because you can read the reviews. I personally have the 5 megapixel Lumix FZ20, and it's absolutely incredible. It takes stunning SLR-like pics for half the price. As with any non-SLR camera it suffers in low light situations a bit, but find me a non-SLR that performs well in low light and I will give you a medal. LOL! Anyways, if you haven't tried a Panasonic, I recommend you do. You will be amazed at the quality shots, especially outdoor shots.

To top it all off, it has an astounding 12x optical zoom which makes it a no brainer in its class.

My teacher told me he had one of these also and it was excellent. I'm kind of curious to check one out.
