no, it's not.

If you want a good wax that you can buy today, get Meguairs. If you want to specail order the best wax you can get (And end up spending $75), get some Zaino.

Klasse & Zaino are highly recommended, but $$$

I use Maguires since it's the only thing easily available

That's up to you. If you go the Zaino route I'd say you could easily go 6 months or more between applications. (With regular waxes I'd say 3 months) You may find that you like applying it since it's so easy and do it monthly. If you have a garage you may find yourself doing it weekly... or even more frequently than that.
I wish I had a garage. :(

There are really really expensive waxes out there from Zymol and other companies available through detailers and specialty shops. I highly doubt that's what you're asking about though. Over $200 a bottle isn't something I'd do either, especially when a multistep like Meguiars/Mothers or Zaino are cheaper and work quite well. Zaino is really nice.

A clay bar & carnauba wax, Klasse or Zaino are probably the best. It is -just- a Mistsubishi, so unless you think you have a collector's model, spending $200 for wax is probably overkill. But Mother's/Meguiar's are readily available and quite a bit cheaper. Stay away from most other retail chain waxes (Turtle Wax, etc.).

Do the 3 step deal about 3-4 times a year and your car will look like new for years.

turtle wax isn't good. if you go with meguiars, go with their #26 wax, paste or liquid.

I use Meguiars.

It's cheap, easy to apply/remove, readily available, and looks 98% as good as Zaino or Klasse. :)

You will only spend $75 because you will want to try the other products. It's only $21.90 to start with Zaino, because he only
needs Z1 and Z2. I highly sugest also getting a bottle of Z6 too though.;)

Turtle Wax is garbage, as are all Armor All products.

There are two basic types of waxes: carnauba and polymer/synthetics. Popular carnauba's are Meguiar's, Mothers, Zymol, and P21. Popular polymer/synthetics are Klasse and Zaino. Carnauba waxes will only last 6 weeks-2 months TOPS. Thats if you live in a mild climate and aren't washing your car every single week. Polymer waxes will last 3 to 6 months, again depending on climate. All of these are very good brands, and each has different product lines that claim to do different things.

As far as price goes, just spend the money. I spent ~38 bucks on my Klasse 2 step kit, and so far I have done approximately a dozen coats on a couple cars, with PLENTY left in the bottle. I'd say the bottle is good for at least another couple dozen coats. (And you only really need 1 coat, but layering tends to deepen the shine)

I second the Autopia suggestion, those people are EXPERTS. But be careful, you'll catch the detailing bug! Its alot like the computer hardware bug we've all succumbed to.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks for posting that. :)
Another polymer you'll see a lot about at Autopia is Blackfire. CMA (properautocare.com) makes that.
And yes you will catch the detailing bug... I spent several hundred dollars on new supplies once I joined Autopia including a Porter Cable 7336SP orbital polisher, new MF towels from JT International, new zaino supplies, etc.
Now if I only had a Garage! :(

man, i am eyeing that Porter Cable something fierce! I'm itching for the spring detail, it's time to get rid of my swirl marks once and for all. How do you like the PC?

Define "best":

- Luster
- Longevity
- Durability
- Ease of application/removal
- Any arbitrary combination of the above

It isn't possible to get everything, only varying degrees of compromise.

It's pretty nice... I'll never go back to applying SMR by hand to the entire car again that's for sure. It's also nice how you can put Zaino on in much thinner layers with the PC than you can by hand. I always wondered how people kept saying they got 7 coats out of 1 ounce. ;)
It'll still give you a work out... especially on horizontal panels if you use it for 8 hours straight... but you won't be hurting nearly as bad the next day.
