Who makes cooler cards?

Do ATI video cards generally run cooler than Nvidia cards? or vice versa?

Or is it a moot point to make?

At similar performance levels nVidia's cards are usually cooler and use less power than ATi's.

It really depends on the card. This is an apples vs. oranges kinda question and can't be simply answered.

And my last ATI card got hotter under load but vented straight out of the case so it kept my whole system cooler. My new Nvidia card gets almost as hot but doesn't vent out of the case which is kind of a bummer. I installed a couple of new fans to address this and bring the temps back down.

Most videocards are designed to run extremely hot reliably so it's not really anything to worry about... except getting rid of that heat so that it doesn't affect your other components. :p

That varies on the card. The 7900gt and 7600gt aren't exactly quiet either by a long shot.

My EVGA 7900GT KO is running real quiet. I can't even hear over my case fans, which are at a reasonable noise level.

Thanks BFG10K.

I apologize to the others, my question was kinda vague. I did mean however at similar power ranges. For example, which would run cooler a 9800Pro or the 6600GT...

No problem... My point was only that its better to ask about specific cards, because as a rule comparable Nvidia cards are quieter, however a passive-cooled ATI card will be
quieter then any fan-equipped Nvidia.

What BFG10k said.

Or if I interpret your question in another way (like if I didn't read the OP):
It is your job to put on 3rd party cooling to make your card cooler.
So YOU make your card cooler.
