Um, Hi-Fi means high fidelity.

High fidelity immeditately rules out sony, technics, pionerr, jvc, denon, yamaha, et all.

But for general entry level mass market stuff - denon, harmon kardon, and (gasp) sony ES gear is decent.

Well I have a proceed preamp, a Mccormack DNA rev A amp and newform research speakers. All of which trump the crap you listed.

I don't say this with ego, it's expensive stuff. You need to define your lifestyle, budget and expectations to have such a question answered, though.

Aiwa and KLH are the best you can buy. Top of the line speakers can only be purchases out of a white van.

I like my Yamaha Reciever, Under 500 bucks and it sounds awesome. Though I need to get some new rear and center channel speakers one of these days.
