Specifically looking for something that can tie into my home entertainment center that can pick up mp3's from a networked computer and stream them and play them on my stereo system at home

Who makes these and where can i find them?

I think he wants the control at the stereo system and not on the PC. With the AE-i you still have to be sitting at your PC to control it.

I'd say pic up a hackable net-device like the Compaq IA-1 and use that. 8.4" TFT, diskless, Linux-capable. Would make an awesome player. 🙂

he can pick up one of these as well

but then both of the products together is probably more than he expected to spend.

GottaDeal.com has a link to this on their main page:
Amazon has the Linksys Wireless-B Music System for a very low $108.95

It's a network appliance player that also comes with cheesy little speakers, but you can plug it into your stereo or any powered speakers.

Netgear, Apple, etc. have similar boxen for $100 - 300. Or get a $50-100 junk PC out of the FS/T forum and make your own.

There are a few restrictions according to my wife.

Cant use a pc.. dont want a big screen--need something integrated. I want to make a playlist, tell the device where to get the playlist and then it also plays the files on that share.

It needs to be small, something that fits on top of the receiver.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Wait, so it's just... an IR receiver? It seems a little pricey.

There are approximately a bazillion digital audio bridges out there, most from popular SOHO networking manufacturers (Linksys, DLink, Netgear). Personally, aside from an MCE2k5 box, I like the Roku SoundBridge.

That soundbridge looks nice. The reviews of the linksys and netgear hardware that I've read have not been to good. I'm gonna have to research the roku soundbridge.
