Who makes a router w/USB port,(usb adsl modem) not rj45?

None that I am aware of, but you can buy ethernet to USB adapters from a few companies which should work just as well.

I looked at that model, thanks. A tech note at the bottom: This unit requires an external Cable or DSL modem with an Ethernet RJ-45 interface. My modem interface is USB.

Problem is, USB isn't a peer-to-peer interface. A USB modem expects to be connected to a PC running Windows or any other operating system with drivers. It's not like Ethernet where you can just send packets to something. I think you're SOL unless you either buy a DSL/cable modem with Ethernet out or luck out and find out that your modem manufacturer makes a router that's specifically compatible.

practicallynetworked.com had a news item about a USB cable/dsl router but it only worked with 2 or 3 specific modems and I recall it being expensive. As others say here, USB requires a PC to control it with drivers (master/slave relationship) vs. ethernet which is peer-to-peer.

Best you can do is use connection-sharing software like MS' or Wingate or Sygate, or buy an ethernet modem. If you have a "junk" PC laying about you can always set it up to do the connection sharing -- I have an old P-133 box with 32 MB / Win98SE I'm using for this now.

Im afraid so Jon, no cookie for USB. As someone mentioned there is only one, and I dont even know if its been released yet, was supposed to be very expensive too. If your ISP will let you use your own, I would get something other than USB or just live with what ya got bro. I think some ISP just use USB for the very reason of preventing you from using routers.

Thanks Master, and guys......I had a choice when I got the dsl.....took the USB modem cause it was $35 cheaper, and less clutter inside with another nic card. I'll probably set up a third system and use it as a server/router only.
