I have an Ogio I picked up on clearance at Target a few years ago. It's a great backpack. For years, I would buy Eddie Bauer backpacks b/c they had a lifetime guarantee, but I think they've drastically changed their guarantee policy.

Whatever you get, buy it at REI. They will give you a free replacement forever if it gets damaged/wears out. You just take it into a store and they'll usually replace it on the spot, and if it's their house-brand backpacks (which are good backpacks), they'll often do it without a receipt (if you've lost track of it.)

haha

I have a jansport external frame that I took across the rockies in New Mexico and Colardo. There's nothing wrong with them. I prefer external frame.

It depends on what you need a backpack for. I am in geology and I have a Kelty that I really like (just a day pack). I also use a Swiss Gear backpack for school and carrying my laptop. It has TONS of pockets and storage for your laptop, books, pens/pencils, etc. I had ordered a north face backpack once and it felt very cheap, I returned it. Of course, I did not use it to see if it turned out to be nice, it just felt like it would rip if I had something with sharp corners inside.
