I have a Maytag Jetclean.
While not the queitest machine, and the cycle is long, it seems to clean the hell out the dishes.

Hahahaha...for some reason I read that as "What type of person is a good dishwasher?"

I was thinking "Uh-oh...better put on the flame-suit." ;)

Cheap diswashers have only one source of water, and only one scrubber (the thing in the bottom which makes the bubbles). So, the dishes on the top racks never get washed properly, only the one ones on the lower one. The good ones have a scrubber on the bottom and below the top rack. This cleans the top and bottom dishes evenly. Also, good ones have multiple sources of water, kinda like a jacuzzi. This ensures better cleaning. That is all I know.

I install dishwashers.

I wouldn't get a Hotpoint or Frigidaire, upper-level GEs are OK (but I wouldn't buy one). The 900-series Whirlpools are pretty good, not too expensive. The 1200- and 1500-series Whirlpools have a lot of room in 'em, but I've changed some out because some people have cleanability issues with them. I think the better Maytags are the best, personally. The Fisher-Paykels are cool, use little water, but for $1400

Pam at this Sears store is really helpful and friendly:
100 Columbiana Cir Ste 101, Columbia, SC phone 803-732-7600

I would buy either the Whirlpool 1200 for $469.99 or Kenmore 16632-15632 for $349.99 (rated a Consumer Reports Best Buy with exceptional reliability).

Sears is currently offering free delivery free delivery after rebate ($40).

Every brand has good and bad one, as with most appliances. Don't buy anything from such and such brand because as I said, every brand has their good and bad models.
