Because it gets me dates!

Apple iBook

Small, relatively light, good price, OS X and it's a very attractive looking little thing.

And what Ciber says is true: no other computer brand will make a girl come up to you in while working in the library. The cuteness (iBook) or coolness (Powerbook) attracts the females somehow. Can't do that with a Dell 😀

the sex machine! oops I meant sexy machine...
15" powerbook
1.5ghz G4
1gig RAM
5400rpm HD
airport
bluetooth
superdrive

also with a OS X driver my trackpad scrolls up and down and left to right when you run your finger near the edges.sidetrack software

I use a IBM T40 from time to time too but I hate it compared to my mac. Feels so klunky.

Voodoopc because I wanted a cool looking laptop, and that I was able to have it upgraded from a Mobility Radeon 9000 to a Mobility Radeon 9700, and hopefully whatever is next.

Yeah it gets me attention, but the girls that are attracted to laptops are usually ones I want to avoid.
Good tool for a conversation starter though

I currently have a Dell Inspiron 8000. It has a 15" SXGA+ (1400x1050) screen that is super sharp, but it is too heavy for me. I am looking forward to getting a new Thinkpad in Sept. Hopefully it will be a T42. 🙂

I have an IBM Thinkpad. Very good, very rugged, just marvellous.

I also have a Dell Inspiron, which I have to say is of ultra poor quality. It is cheap, but there are a lot of compromises. The entire machine is fragile. So are the buttons, press the power buton, and sometimes works only on the second push from power off state. Overall, very vewry poor quality. THeir TV commercials lie about quality. I had to return it 3 times back to Dell, each time because of a motherboard failure. It finally worked on the 4th time. Still, it feels fragile, and the keyboard keys feel not good. Overall, they are a good deal, but I would never get one is data and reliability is so important. A lot of people I know have dumped their Dell laptops for IBM, COmpaq, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Sony, and some of the other brands. So, never will I buy a Dell laptop. BUT, they make some of the best DESKTOP's, and thatis one area where they are very strong.

I also like Toshiba's and Sony's. The Sony's look very beautiful. The Fujitsu ones are very nice too.

Apple. I've had a Dell and a Compaq also and they were disappointing. I'm looking at Apple again, an Asus, and as far as I can tell a no-name brand A64 notebook.

I've found a place where I can get a:

15,4 Widescreen (1280x800)
1.7Ghz Dothan
1Gb Kingston memory
60GB 5400 rpm
9700pro 128mb
DVD/CD-RW
Built-in-card reader
54Mbit/100Mbit
1xFW/3xUSB2.0

3kg (~6 lbs)
HxWxL 32x250x353mm

for ~$2000

link

I guess it's not the most fancy looking, but it's not fugly either IMHO. I guess I'll buy it during this summer.

i bought an acer travelmate 370 because the thing is so damn portable and thin. it was also the best priced for what it features and acer has a decent international warranty - adn i'm moving around everywhere so this was crucial.

got a compaq x1050us because it was a steal, centrino for under a grand. seriously, it was a deal. if you do lean toward hp/compaq, i would suggest looking at the x1000 and zt3000 series; those are centrino/widescreen and typically of better quality than you are accustomed to for hp/compaq. i love my compaq x1050.

Another proud owner of an M6805..... only the newest high end desktops have more horsepower than my machine

Done. I should have put that on from the start since my girl bought one. 😛

Hmmm... the people that made my laptop are:

ECS - the laptop body
Intel - pentium M & 2200bg
Hitachi - 4.2k rpm hdd (yea this piece of sh!t has to go for a faster one)
Samsung - sodimm
Micron - sodimm

And Me!

Dell D600. Nice machine. Light, excellent screen, fast, simple and intuitive layout. At 1399 there wasn't a better price/performance ratio on the planet.

My laptop is a AlBook from Apple. Biggest reason I picked this one up is that it cannot be infected with all of the worms/trojans/viruses that I am constantly dealing with on my client's networks. I can take my notebook, plug into their network and actually fix things without having to worry that my laptop is going to get hosed.

Oh and then there is OS X, the wide screen, the weight. It's a great machine!

IBM T series, for ruggedness, reliability, portability.. and all that people have said.

I will also highly recommend the x1000 (same as zt3000), if you don't need as much portability (the extra ~inch width does make a big difference). Widescreen is great (get wsxga+), and the build quality impressed me.

I've had a dell 600m and my roomate has had a dell 8600. Both were returned with the 30 day period because of different issues, but if you get one without problems, all the better.

btw-- the scroll bar on the side of the hp/compaqs can be duplicated by most touchpads (I know for the IBM for a fact); you just need to change a setting in the mouse/trackpad properties.
