I went there for spring break when I was in college...maybe 2005? I loved it, it was fantastic.

Jamaica is a dangerous place...off of the resorts. Just don't go wandering around the island and you'll be fine.

So you don't like Jamaica. You like Sandals.

but the whole concept of resort/cruise traveling always seemed weird to me.

I'd much rather explore ruins in Manchu Picchu or walk through the Roman forum than be enclosed in a sterilized enviornment where everything is fake.

Ive never had a good experience in the carribean area...well any worth repeating. My only memories of local flair was being hassled hard core for trinkets and getting dirty looks when exploring the less traveled areas.

St. Thomas was the least rude to visit

Im a good traveler, i love a multitude of places, but the carribean is unique in the way they treat tourists outside of the controlled resort area.

Why weird? Some people like the weather, and the beach, and all inclusive food/alcohol, and its a simple fact that beaches down there are nicer than, say, New Jersey.

Its not "weird"...its just a difference of opinion.

it's weird to me 😉

but I also almost never watch the same movie twice or reread a book... it always feels like a waste of time when there are so many movies out there that I've never seen or books that I've never read.

I apply the same concept to vacations.

My life is busy enough with work--kids having to be here there and everywhere. Is there something wrong with getting away from everything and just chilling out with my wife for a few days?
I know some people just cant sit still and have to "see" things and I enjoy that sometimes too--but one doesnt always have to live amongst the natives to enjoy someplace.

A buddy of mine almost got knifed for not buying a bracelet. I guess it depends where you go.

True-but its no different than visiting any big city in the US. I live very near Detroit and there are areas you just stay away from. If you dont well....expect bad things to happen.

when was the last time you heard of anyone going to Detroit for vacation? 😉

My wife and I have been to Negril 4 times.

No doubt one of my favorite spots.

I hate those all inclusive places.
