The only Intel CPU i owned was the P4 550.
I bought it purely so i could sell it (got in on a good deal)

I don't anticipate using any Intel CPUs anytime soon, since they seem to want to prolong Netburst forever, & i don't need a laptop, so no need for a Pentium M...

I had a XP-2500...... jumped at the chance for a P4 northwood which overclocked from 2.8 to 3.8ghz on air.
got rid of that for my X2-3800......
won't go near intel again........simple as that

I'd say I don't really loyally support either, however I could be labeled an AMD "fan" at this time. I've had really zero problems either way.

Intel 486 DX4-100mhz
Pentium 120@133
Pentium 200MMX@233
Pentium 2 266@stock
Celeron 333@416
Celeron2 566@850
Athlon 750@950
Athlon 1000@1200
Athlon XP 1700+(1.43)@2.33GHZ (in use, thats an impressive overclock)

Opteron 144 & DFI NF4 DAGF sitting waiting on my X800 to get here :(
I've really wanted to check out a good P4C or Dual Core but...Haven't had the money, and I'm confident in the A64/Opteron ;)

I will never go back to Intel because AMD offers good cheap price.

Intel 486-50 SLC
AMD 5x86 133
AMD K6 300
AMD Duron 700 (Spitfire core)
AMD Duron 1.3
AMD Althon 2400+
AMD Althon 64 3500+ (Venice)

Had P133 years ago. i remember upgrading to 32Mb ram from 16. haha
Then P4 2.4Ghz (northwood) (that was kinda built for me, stepdad knows computers)
Anyway, then I developed an interest in computers, and got a job, therefore had money. Initially, just ran the P4 at 2.9, then discovered that someone else made processors.
Got a 4400+. Just. Awesome. Now, reading reviews/comparisons on processors etc, it's great to see AMD destroying those goddamn P4's and dual core monstrosities. It's a shame the average joe doesn't know that AMD exists. Like with firefox and IE really. d'ah well.

hrm... went from Intel (packard Bell) 386DX25MHz, to Intel 486DX66 (using the same packard bell chassis). then went to Intel Pentium 100 with 16MB Ram, 1.08GB HDD, 4x Optical and generic sound and a generic video (cirrus logic). After hanging around that, went to Intel 166MMX, (which was okay) and immediately went to AMD 200 (also with mmx, forgot what it was called). Then went to P2-333 @ 400 hehe, then P3-500, THEN went to AMD 1.2 T-bird (ran super hot for some reason). AND THEN went with Athlon XP 1800+... which also ran hot. At that time, i just wanted Intel, because they seemed more reliable and ran cooler. The next Intel I got was a 2.53 northwood, paired with an ASUS P4PE Deluxe. That was ROCK solid. Then I went from that system to AMD again, but this time, Athlon64 3500+ Winchestor, A8N-SLI Deluxe to Athlon64 3700+ San Diego. After getting tired of what seems to be a faulty CPU, i'm now on the Opteron 170 with a DFI Lanparty SLI-DR Expert with 2x512 OCZ Rev. 2's... So i'll swing both ways, I have no bias on ANY product what so ever. In fact, I helped my friend OC his similar setup:

Opteron 170 @ 2.79 310HTT @9x 3-7-7-13 @1.77V
OCZ Rev.2's 9/10 279.9MHz @3.09V
Gigabyte 3D Galaxy Water cooling kit
Gigabyte Aurora 3D Chassis

trying to prime his setup... got 2 primes on the CPU, one will pass, second will fail after 4 hours..

Why am I not surprised it's stability99 starting a thread like this...? The last weeks he has done nothing but bashing on AMD and the nForce4 chipset, labeling it as a "complete instable" platform... Big load of BS coming...

I have been very happy with my AMD CPU's, and am only partially an Intel fan (their Pentium M is great, their P4 line a bit less), so I think it's absolutely ridiculous to start this kind of flame-war-between-Intel-and-AMD-fanboys threads...

Either one of 'em has its advantages and disadvantages... AMD is thé gaming choice, so on an enthusiast hardware site like AT (and unfortunately for you), a lot of people seem to prefer AMD...

Intel's not the almighty choice,it once was, anymore...

Man, you guys upgrade too often...
I went from IBM Intel 386sx25 to a Compaq Pentium 100 to my own build P3-733 to my own build p4 2.4c. And no, I'm not an Intel fan, but I'm not an AMD fan either. I always just choose which one is better for the $$. I didn't know much about it AMD when I built my first computer, and I chose the p4 2.4c over the Barton 2500+, because I thought (and still think) it was the better choice. My next build (some time this year) will definitely be AMD dual-core. Now, the choice is to wait for Socket AM2 or to upgrade in a couple weeks.

I don't quite get people who say "Will never go back". ReallY?
My first system was Dell, then I built a system based on 850E chipset (P4 2.26GHz -> 3.06GHz). Bought a laptop based on mobile Athlon XP meantime, it was a huge letdown (sluggish, extremely hot). I waited for dual-core CPUs and after my comparison of P-D and X2, went with X2. Extremely happy with the performance of X2. After that I've purchased a laptop based on P-M, and quite satisfied. And of late, joined the Opteron craze and built a second rig with various Socket 939 Opterons.

I will go back and forth anytime for better performance and more fun. Currently looking forward to the battle of AMD's DDR2 platform and Pentium M based desktop platform. I'm not faithful to anyone.

i switched to Intel when HT came out and the Athlon64s were still a few months away. I'm still using a 2.4GHz @ 3 and i'm just dying to upgrade to X2, bu socket M is out and i can wait it out till then. Core Duo seems pretty damn awesome though. I think its gotten to the point where AMD is undisputed more powerful as they cost more than Intel now.

I switched to Intel back in the days of AMD K6 (piece of crap)
I don't even know if that was really a switch, I had bought the k6 450 as a second machine

since K7 I have been "faithful" to AMD (except for the time when I found a Toshiba laptop with a celeron for $449 a year)

But for anything I build myself AMD is the way to go

Grr, the posts on that forum make my head hurt.

Started with an Athlon XP chip cause they were amazingly cheap (the Athlon XP 2200 I bought was around $75 when I bought it and is still chugging along just fine in my brother's computer). I upgraded to a A64 3000 Winchester core cause they were faster, cooler, and could overclock more than their Intel counterparts. If I were to upgrade now, I'd be going for an Opty 165.

(look at sig)

Processor line:
Pentium Overdrive
K6-II(I)
P3 500mhz
Athlon XP 1800+
Athlon XP-Mobile 2500+@2.5ish/P4 Northwood 2.66ghz <-Owned at same time, still own both, northwood great P4
AMD Opty 175@2.6 <-Just found out NOT stable at stock voltage...guess its time to raise the voltages (now running 1.365v)

Well, I left AMD for P3, that counts right???
Also I owned a Athlon XP and a P4 at the same time but I think the Athlon was much better for gaming then the Intel, so I made that my primary machine until I got my shiny new Opteron.

wow this is gonna be fun!

-486 with 8Mb RAM (Garbaged)
-PII 233Mhz 64Mb RAM (rock stable @ 320Mhz) (storage)
-Celeron 500Mhz 256Mb RAM (Stable @ 600Mhz) (i had two of these board one with ecc ram and the other without) (storage)
-Intel P4 1.8 Ghz 512 Pc2100 (@1.9) (parents computer)
-Intel Celeron D 2.4 512 pc2700 (@3.3) (shelfed)
-Intel P4 2.4c 1gb pc4000 (@3.4Ghz--it's a SL6Z3 on an ic7-g max II)
THEN I GOT LUCKY. (Gave it to my sis)
I won an AMD DURON 1.6G applebred online wiht a crappy msi km3m-v
I overclocked it with simple jumper dummy, and got it to work @ 2.0Ghz stock vcore w00t!
now i'm addicted. I love these things, and i love the modding and the el cheapo wire tricks for a crap mobo!
(btw i have a dell xps 3.4c 1gb pc3700, it's ok for my dorms!)

AMD ROCKS, planning to sell the p4 and get me an x2 2800, and oc we go!

addicted!

--- prebuilt ---
Intel 386
Intel 486DX
Intel Pentium MMX 133
--- starting building my own ---
Intel Celeron 333 @ 450+
Intel celeron 533 @ 800+
Athlon 1600+ Tbird @?
Athlon 1900+ Tbird @?
Athlon 2100+ Tbird @?
Athlon XP 2600+ mobile @2.2Ghz
--- next rig ---
A64 duel core with a new M2 board.

My opinion is to go with the best rig for a
fixed amount I'm willing to dish out. And lately it's
been AMDs. But Intel used to have a few nice very
OCable solution (Celerons) that boosts your performance/$ very
well when OCed. Another problem is intel kept switching
platforms which is bit annoying for me. I don't care
to get new mb, if I can dish out 150 bucks to get new CPU
and achieve like 80% performance of a new mb+cpu+RAM type (Rambus)
at 1/3 price, I'd say that is much better solution. And
after using AMD I'd say it fits my usage pattern better.
Like web surfing is faster and program compilation is faster.
Rest image editing I do some like photoshop, Adobe CS2 stuff but
not my main thingy. Also occasional gaming is on the menu too.

hm. Lemme see here...

486 DX 25---> 486 DX4 100----> AMD 5x86 133.
Pentium 133 ----> Pentium MMX 166 ------> Cyrix 6x86@183 MHz ------> K6-200
Celeron 300A@450-------> PIII 550@616
K6-3 550 (alternate system)
Barton 2600+ (system died)
P4 1.5 -----> 2.0 (dell "barebones" [CPU Case ram] I picked up for $50 when my barton died)
Clawhammer 3200+@2.4
Winchester 3000+@2.6
Manchester 3800+@2.65.

Man, that socket 7 system was messed around with sooo many times. Same mobo worked like a champ, every time I went dumpster diving for parts I'd mess around with it. Ended up with like 128MB of SIMM memory in there at the end.

First PC
P4 1.7Ghz

2nd PC(Only upgraded CPU)
AMD AthlonXP 1800+
AMD AthlonXP 2400+
AMD AthlonXP 2500+

3rd PC(Only upgraded CPU)
AMD Athlon64 3000+ (Socket 754)
AMD Athlon64 3400+ (Socket 754)

4th PC
P4 560 3.6Ghz

5th PC
AMD Athlon64 3700+ San Diego

My P4 560 was idling at 51C which was insane. Now with my 3700+ SD I'm at a cool 28C. I generally game alot so AMD is my choice when it comes to CPUs.

My computer list...

TS1000 (Timex/Sinclair) LOVED the 16Kb upgrade!
Tandy TRS-80 (boy was that expensive!)
Texas Instruments TI-99/4A (used in 84)

Didn?t get another computer until I was back from Iraq in 91 then purchased?

Packard Bell SX 16Mhz computer

Almost every year after that purchased a new Intel based computer until AMD and Cyrix started coming out with cheaper alternatives. I really started to like AMD when they came out with the K6 (486 class I believe) but still had to use Intel until the XP?s came out and proved they could be innovative. So, I?ve been looking for Intel alternatives since the mid to late 90?s.

Work System

PowerEdge 6400 (former server :) )

Home System
AMD XP 3200+ (Venice) OC?ed to 2.2Ghz

19? LG LCD Screen
Sony Surround Sound Theater System (5.1) w/ Polk speakers
Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro
