Who knows stuff about the Eye doctor?

I'm going to get an exam for Contacts... is it the same for glasses? I want to ask for a prescription for both but not sure if its going to cost extra... (i'm going to pearlvision if that makes a difference)

Also, i found a lot of free sample contacts coupons over at fatwallet... will they let me use like 5 of those from different brands?


I know... not the best place to ask this stuff... but this was the first place i thought of for answers from smart individuals

It's the same and to ask for both won't cost extra. I go every other year. A couple of times, I got both contacts and glasses. Same price each time and the same as when I just get contacts.

No, the RX sometimes is not always the same because of vertex distance. An example would be if the patient was myopic and wearing a high minus eye glass perscription such as a -8.00, the eye doc might perscribe -7.75 for contact users. Why? Because the distance of the front of the eye to the lens of the phorpter(the contraption that the eye doc rotates lenses in front of you during a eye exam) is normally less than the distance of the front of the eye to the back of the eyeglass lenses. But for most people who normally wear +or- 4 diopters(about 80% of you), it is normally the same...

if your optomotrist is any good he will make you try out several brands of contacts in order to find the ones that feel right for you.

And you can get both prescriptions easily. Just ask for them. I think it's a rule that they must give them to you.

It is pretty much the same, except your Dr. will have to take his finger and touch your eyeball to make sure your eye can take em.

It's not bad but he WILL poke it and check density and then rub it a little, for like.... 30 seconds.

But he'll give you eyedrops afterwards.

Kaieye was correct. The numbers are frequently different for contacts and glasses, depending on the person's exact problem.

I would suggest you ask immediately, and ask the doctor as well as the secretary. I think it was Consumer Reports a few years ago who did a study and people who phoned in to get their prescription from a secretary were given the wrong numbers ~30% of the time in some national chains.

Hmm. I never had anybody poke my eye when I first got contacts. But I didn't like them so only wore them for a month or so...

But the prescription should be the same but depending on if you are near/far/astig you might need different kinds of contacts that are weighted or things like that.
