EDIT:
A very close friend of mine, a girl about 25 years old, just told me she has been using coke for the past month and a half or so, to help her lose weight (she is BEAUTIFUL, but has self-esteem and image issues) She used a variety of drugs recreationally, from weed to coke / acid / ect. up untill about 2 years ago, then had a reason to stop. She says she is not addicted, but has been using it a few times a day in small amount almost everyday for the last 6 weeks. She says she is stopping. She does realize she needs help, but does not realizre the extent of help she really needs I think.

I dont know much about it, so I dont know if I person can use it that but much not be physically addicted. I think the problem is almost entirely psycological in her case, but on a number of levels, which will make getting her help difficult.

My life was flipped upside down this morning when she told me. It is the least important thing in this situation, but I feel so sad and betrayed.....

a guy I used to work with did, I think he finally took some responsibility for his actions and managed to quit, but it wasn't pretty.

This girl I know did 5 lines her first time and it had no effect on her. So she didn't do it again

Having said that....it's the hardest drug to quit if you get hooked

Yes, and they went to counseling and also was put in a long term program for a while to detox. I know someone else that started experimenting with drugs, but he found a girl who really straightened him out before he went too far.

I, personally, haven't taken any illegal drugs, and I have never smoked before, although 2nd hand smoke is inevitable.
Alcohol is my drug of choice. Whiskey, Vodka, Rum, or Petron (Tequila but I don't like any other type) straight. 😛 😉

a lot of my friends use coke now a days, only they think i don't really know much about it.

last time i went out with this group of friends for "a guys night out" was like 2 years ago, and as soon as i got in the car they were like "you may see some stuff tonight you don't usually see so don't think nothing of it or be shocked." 10 mins later my friend pulls out some little container of coke and used some. that pretty much immediately took down my buzz I had going on already. i was put in a pretty disappointed mood after seeing that crap and didn't have too much fun the whole night.

it made me wonder how long these guys had been doing it for and made me wonder about all the times they would go to the bathroom in groups or something now that I looked back on it.

in those 2 years I haven't hung out with "just the guys" or even those people too often becauase all they go do is party and what not. i'm talkin about going out like 4-5 times a week. that's just not me. i'm positive they still do coke on a regular when they go out and it's pretty disappointing and sad.

i've done it myself several times

many drugs aren't that bad so long as you excercise a measure of control

the problem many people have is they go overboard and use it constantly, that's when the addiction takes hold

there's nothing wrong with smoking a joint or doing a couple lines of coke every great once in a while...it's really no different from being a social drinker...moderation is key

What have they had to do to get and stay clean?

I was a crackhead for about 4 years. I chased rock like I was air and crack was a vacuum (which was pretty much the case).

When I was broke enough to not be high 24/7 I finally got a job and my wife gave me the car to go to work. Every day at lunchtime I would drive a few of the guys up to the dope hole to cop, and they would give me snorts of heroin.

Soon I realized that when I was high on dope I didn't need to chase readyrock. Bam I got a dope habit and rode that for a few years before quiting drugs alltogether. Quitting dope was eleventybillion times easier than if I would have had to go cold turkey off of a crack habit. No way in hell that would have worked.

#1 thing that someone needs to stay clean is the desire to stay clean. If they don't REALLY want to be clean, you can spin your wheels for the rest of your life and they will not stay clean.

After that, they need the tools to learn how to change the way they think. It's not enough to just not get high. They need to change their thought processes or they will never ever get it.

Cocaine Anonymous has helped a lot of people. Love, support and pure will won't do the trick if the addict doesn't sincerely want to go to any lengths to kick their habit and stay clean. It takes a lot of work as well. It's the old saying, "You can lead a horse to water.....". Recovery is a bitch, trust me.

As far as anyone who got themselves solidly addicted, I can say the same. One disappeared after going to a halfway house, not sure what ever became of her. The other managed to straighten out, but not before dropping out of college and barely having enough mental capacity left for a retail job at a mall. Which is sad, given that he was an honor student with a lot of potential. To put it in perspective, his younger brother finished college in three years and is on his way to an MBA from a very respectable school.

Coke's not something to screw around with.

As I have seen many crack/cocaine addicts at my hospitals I will say they are the WORST to deal with detoxing...there isnt much we can give them to help, at least with heroin we can give some methadone and/or restrain them while they detox....cocaine....you just gotta deal with them being giant a-holes the whole time since they cant get a fix.

Took it maybe 5 times in the 80s. It was great fun, but I couldn't stand the person it turned me into. I was a musician in those days and was around it a lot. There's nothing more obnoxious and annoying than someone on coke. Certainly never an addiction or problem for me, but I could sure see how it could be for others.

Cocaine addicts can be given anti-anxiety drugs within a hospitalized setting in controlled amounts to help. Look it up on the net.

Hello, my name is Chris, and now neither one of you can say you never known someone (at least online) who recovered from cocaine addiction. It CAN be done.

<--- 6 1/2 years. I'll never be cured but I'll always be clean.

I was worried about making a worthy 1000th post. Bringing even a little hope to someone fighting addiction was well worth it!

hell of a 1000th post

and congrats 🙂

Two close friends were heavy users.

One straightened out after being arrested for sitting in a parked car using. The other stuck with it until he snorted up all his money, and got evicted. He's in rehab right now, just visited him Saturday. I don't think he's going to beat it because he has other mental issues.

I wonder if they ever look back at how much they spent on that crap.
