Fritz want to buy my paintball gear? It's an automag with the xvalve (built like a tank with no electronics and probably still works like a dream even though I haven't used it in years). I've got it all - mask, tank, belt/pods, gun etc. I'll take pictures of it all and send the details if you're interested.

I've always been slightly curious about paintball (I have played before, but only a time or two), and seeing the photos that my half-sister posts on Facebook of their family paintball outings (brother-in-law, half-sister, niece) are rather crazy!

The crazy, it-looks-real-which-is-awesome part of me likes this one:

Also the idea of having a spare pistol in the back reminds me of way too many action movies:

Kind of surprising that a pistol is so expensive though.

When I was ~18, I went paintballing in the woods with a few of my friends, my dad and a few of his friends.
One of my dad's badass friends decided he was too badass for a mask.
He decided to wear his 90's Oakley sunglasses.
Who was the first guy I saw that raised his head above a log? Mr.Badass

I fired 1 round and it hit him perfectly in the lens, shattering it into his face.
Luckily, the shards didn't hurt him. It ruined his glasses, gave him a black eye and he had paint all over his face.
He was pissed because I "aimed for his head". lol

He wore a mask after that.

These are good for scenario paintball but pretty bad if you are going to play for the day, that x7 is almost 4 pounds. I usually carry 4-5 pods, all the weight adds up, that gun + 68/90 cu tank could put you at 7-9 pounds.. if you are going to run with that with pods, you're going to die half, they're going to shoot you before you get behind something :)

no offense, but automags are some OLD tech. And mechanical only. Meaning they don't fire all that fast. If you really want an all old school mechanical gun the Spyder Fenix is pretty much an updated automag with better parts. Or an Azodin Khaos. Either of which new goes for $80. Each of which would have a warranty and easier to maintain and find parts for.

Pretty much.

tippmans LOOK good, but aren't worth the money beyond a tippman 98. Even those are debatable unless you know that you are going to put the gun in the hands of someone that is going to abuse it to hell.

Otherwise tippman's are heavy as well, unreliable on paint, slow firing, overpriced, and too proprietary on parts/upgrades. I have used tippman's before, but would personally never buy one. Some of the co-workers I ran with for playing got a tippman A-5 similar to the one in that link. He got a ton of upgrades for it like the paddle wheels and such. He spent over $1200 for his entire setup. It looked REALLY cool, but sucked to use. He was tired after an hour or so of playing and his shoulders were getting really sore from the weight. Balls broke like crazy in it and jammed all the time. Literally every other game he had to re-adjust something to keep it firing okay. Something that heavy doesn't all one to move from position to position all that well or even fire with good accuracy. It's LOUD as hell, and the moment he shot once everyone knew where he was.

tippman's are for rentals or very young kids that don't know keeping care of equipment. Otherwise stay well away from them.
