Radioshack isnt a bad place to work- I was makin close to 13-15/hr on average when I was working there. It is commision but that just means no minimum wage =)
That said, I hate the company and products they offer, but in terms of a job, the pay was pretty good.
I should let ya know that this was about a year and a half or 2 years ago so who knows what they are doin now.

You need connections, man. Get a friend or family friends to refer you. At 18, it can be very hard to get any job if demand isn't very high.

Unemployment among teenagers has been rising sharply over the last 10 years or so. It's easy to see why. Whenever I walk into a mcdonalds now, its full of mexicans. A teenager just can't compete with a Mexican worker who is a full time worker rather than part time.

Try using the phone book. I never use the paper and search the ads, whip out the phone book and call places out of there. I usually call, ask for the manager and say "May I ask who it is I am speaking to? Hello XXX, my name is XXX, I'm sorry to bother you, but I am cold calling you out of the phone book in hopes you may be hiring. You are, great, is there a good time for you for me to come in and talk to you about the positions you have open?" "Your not, ok, well again thank you very much for your time, have a great day."

I have gotten more jobs that way, then calling on jobs listed in the paper, and in most cases the mangers would tell me that it was a great Idea calling from the phone book, they would never of thought to do it, and in some cases I have had them ask me how I knew they were hiring, they were just about to run a ad in the paper for someone.

Has worked for me several times in the past, and it can work for you if you try it.
