this is like one of those junk e-mail survey things that your friends send you.... in other words... something to do when you are bored. Also, this has to be a [edit bold]non-family related[/edit bold] Idol.

My Idol: Wes Borland (Guitar player from Limp Bizkit)
Why?: He's my idol because I think he looks cool, and he's not the best guitar player in the world but has seemed to make an impact in my mind for some un-known reason to me, but I would definately like to play guitar as well as him, if not better some day.

So who's your idol?

Gotta be the parents. Sounds hokey but they are everything I want to be. They work hard and prove that success comes to anyone that is willing to put int the hours. They never get angry at anyone or any situation. They are generous to everyone around them. They have given me a jumpstart in life that millions only dream of. They always thing of themselves last and those around them first. They have taught me values that I am not ashamed to pass on to others. They are humble and never try to draw attention to themselves or their accomplishments.

I have to go with Baal

The oldest are still the best, what with burnt offerings & sacrifices & all.

Argh - my idol since I was a kid has just "fallen from grace" with me and it really sucks... :(

Growing up as a hockey goalie, I began to idolize / imitate the style of Patrick Roy, then of the Montreal Canadiens. I had posters, bought the same equipment, jersey, etc... even a Canadiens pillowcase! I patterned my goaltending style to his - give them the five-hole and take it away at the last second... yeah.

In October, for my 24th birthday, my mom even gave me the McFarlane Toys Patrick Roy figure - it is incredibly detailed and poseable and proudly went on my desk at work.

The very next day Roy was arrested on domestic violence charges. :(

Its been hard for me to decide how I feel now about things - he has always been my favorite goaltender and sports figure. I still use all Koho equipment and wear a Colorado jersey at practice games. The idolizing had gone after I grew up, but the respect and admiration as a sports figure was still there. Until now. What do you do when someone falls from grace? I wonder if I'm too judgemental on someone like that... but domestic violence is one thing (like drunk driving) I can't excuse or tolerate. If it had been drugs, alcohol, fighting with teammates, suspensions... whatever, that would be his business. But I no longer feel like I can respect him after hearing about what did happen.

Argh.

This ever happened to anyone else?

Well, outside of family members, there are a couple of people who I admire greatly, but I wouldn't call them my 'idols'. They are really more like heroes to me... Idols always seem to end up with clay feet. ;)

One (who I actually know)would be Dr Jack Guggino, the opthamologist who finally fixed my eyes after other surgeons failed. He is fast becoming a well-known philantropist in my city, and it is no surprise to me. He has a heart of gold and a brilliant mind, and I wish there were more like him.

Two more that come to mind (whom I don't know personally)are Diane Fossey and Jane Goodall.

Given a different set of life circumstances, I would have felt very fulfilled spending my days as they have, contributing so greatly to our knowledge of nature and creatures in the wild.

I can't think of his name offhand, but the man who studied and documented the Sawtooth Wolves is also the type of person I admire.

Also, every single scientist out there who is working to understand the causes and find the cures for cancer, especially childhood cancer. They are my 'idols' in that they have dedicated themselves to doing something truly worthwhile rather than make the big bucks doing something more popular.

:)
