I am about to install my SMC Cable router that should be here tomorrow. I was told my the tech department of SMC that I have to configure a PORT and have the PORT numbers for AOL Instant Messenger and Napster so that all THREE of my computers can be used. He said that if I set up a DMZ, only one computer will be able to use the above.
Is anyone using Napster and AOL Instant messenger through a Cable Router with multiple PC's and if so, how do I set up the Router and what are the PORT numbers.
I am new to this and not sure if I am saying it right.
Thanks

Im using AIM, (was using) Napster, using ICQ, and several other progs like that and I dont have to foward any ports, and i can still send and receive files. I only have to foward ports when i host a server like a HTTP/FTP/MAIL/GAME etc. I have the Netgear RT311.

I have the Linksys router (BEFSR41) and so far, my son has no complaints on Napster or AOL IM. From what I can see, his pals contact him fine, and he gets all the MP3s he wants. Whether folks are getting MP3s from him--I dunno. I've not had to fwd any ports. I was expecting some kind of issue when I first got it, but if he's not complaining, I'm not worried. Good Luck!
