I went and picked up a second 8800GTS and a Thermaltake W0099RU PSU to power it. Another $370 just to play this game.

Anyone else beefing up their rig in order to meet the crysis requirements?

no.

after finding out that the demo wasnt optimized for multi-core, i figure ill wait and see for performance then.

also, sli is a waste of money IMO. at least it used to be, not sure about now. not to mention glitchy as heck.

Can't speak to glitchiness but from everything I read SLI has come a long way. 50%+ increase in performance across the board.

Downloading demo now, but no matter how good it is and how crappy it runs: no. I plan on upgrading only when my system's about to explode from running the newest version of Word;). Even then, maybe not cause I want to get a console.

Sure, i'll upgrade.
As soon as something can run Crysis on VERY HIGH settings. ;)

upgrade to what? what's out there that can run crysis decently? lol :D

and idiotek, SLI is not a waste. most games get nearly double fps at high resolution + AA (24" and 30" monitors). Of course if you are running 1280x1024 or 1680x1050, SLI is a complete waste since you are CPU limited, not GPU limited.

honestly, anyone who upgrades before the release is stupid. wait for benchmarks to find out what works best, and *THEN* purcahse a new rig.

I'm going to wait and see how the final version of Crysis runs on the new AMD/ATi 3800 HD cards. I can run the demo just fine on mixed medium and high settings on my comp now, but if the ATi card can do very high, I'll get it.

I thought I had to, but I can run the Demo at Very High (everything at Very High), without AA and without AF, at 1280x960, at 15 to 25FPS, and, surprisingly, it is NOT annoying me at all, and I think it IS playable. I'm not sure why exactly but despite the somewhat low FPS the game doesn't stutter at all, it might not be fast but it remains smooth. I don't know exactly how to describe it.

Overall I won't upgrade just for Crysis. I WILL upgrade anyway, but certainly not for that game specifically.

I upgrade roughly every 12 months whether my system needs it or not [buy new stuff, sell off old stuff while it's still in demand and still worth something]

I'm a certifiable g33k..so I needs my speed. :)

I'll be upgrading to the 8800gt when the price comes down, not necessarily just for crysis but for gears of war and ut3 also. From the benchmarks I have seen, the 8800gt performs quite a bit better than the 8800gts 320mb especially since I have a 1920x1200 monitor.

No, I'll wait until I get a half decent video card to try that again, I can only run it at 1400x900 medium with my current card.

I was thinking of getting an 8800GT but I think I'll be waiting until Warhammer to upgrade. If I wait to play Crysis til then, hopefully a new series of cards will come out.

Nah, 1950xt will push it adequately and engaging gameplay should take care of the rest.

No, spending hundreds of dollars on new hardware that will still be a game's bitch doesn't appeal to me. I'll play the game on lowered settings and then when I upgrade later on down the line for a real game (one that will occupy my time well past the frame captured by what should be a short single player experience - let's not kid ourselves, I doubt anyone is truly anticipating Crysis to have incredible replay value), I'll then replay Crysis in its full glory.

I'm not upgrading. I went from a E6600 to a E6850 but I was doing that anyway as I found a buyer for my old motherboard/CPU.

Yeah, you're right on the money.
By the time anything could max Far Cry with ease, i was already long done with the game.

Then they also kept coming out with HDR effects for the game and stuff , which i looked at but certainly didnt replay the whole game just to see them.

Heck the best Far Cry games were only released on the consoles.

Me.

I just finished putting my new rig together. This wasn't specifically for Crysis, but just to upgrade.
I got the following:

Q6600
P5K-E
2Gig Crucial Ballistix
8800 GT KO

graphics are so beautiful in BF2.

sig is my original setup.

Yup, totally agree here. In fact I have been putting off upgrading for some time, for two reasons really. One, what I have is just fine for most games I play, and two, because I knew Crysis would be extremely demanding.

So still running a Pentium 930, 2GB, and a 256MB 7950 GT (which XFX gave me as a replacement for a failed 7900 GT). I am waiting to see what new cards will be available, and what the retail benchmarks look like before I make any decisions.

I actually got a couple of 19" hp lcd monitors that run at 1280x1024 so I'm going to downgrade my monitor to tht from my 1680x1050 2005fpw and my 1920x1080 westinghouse instead of upgrading my hardware.
