Minivan drivers. Closely followed by full size station wagon drivers.

anyone who has tried to "pimp their ride" and turn it into a "hoopty" of sorts

this includes, in particular, anyone who has large diameter chrome wheels on their car or SUV (especially SUV :|) this also includes modders (ricers esp, but people ruin german cars aplenty too) that have giant fart-cans, spoilers, ground effects, and tasteless body kits.

Smug = Prius, hands down. No doubt about it.

However, the answer varies by region. So, this opinion is applicable only to the Los Angeles/OC areas.

Anyone who puts tasteless chromed out rims on their car. Anyone who drives 5+year old luxury cars thinking they're hot sh!t.

And a few other car owners....those of 300M, and Crown Victorias.

The Prius creates the most smug pollutants than any other vehicle on the road.

Prius, of course. There are plenty of smug owners of other cars, but the Prius exists solely to provide smugness.

I saw 6 Prius (plural of prius?) the other day on my way home from the gym, 3 while waiting at one stop light, all the same color. I feel for the smugg problem in my town :(

God you must cleanse yourself of that smug immediately!

Treatment plan :

(1)- Go eat some barbecue & chicken wings!

(2)- Go for some drag races in a Vette or Mustang ... the closer to the 60s the better.

I don't think it's a matter of the car you own, but a general attitude that some people have which says "if you don't drive a car that I approve, then you're a jackass."

The ironic truth is that many of those people with that attitude don't even drive the cars they push on the rest of us...they're just annoying little smugsters who consider themselves experts.

Those people bother me much more than some of the owners who are proud of what they drive but may not know much about it.

Hands down, BMW owners. It was funny watching the expression on my co-workers face when I told him that his BWM uses the exact same transmission as my CTS. I thought he was ready to die.

The most annoying would have to be rice of any flavor, closely followed by F-150 drivers with straight pipes.

I think I'm going to just verbally abuse the next Honda Civic EX driver with a 4 inch pep boys tip on his exhaust that revvs on me at a stoplight with his spray painted body parts and mismatched tires. I'm so tired of it and unfortunately the town I moved to a couple of months ago is filled with nothing but people like this. Not just Honda's either, the second would be the venerable Chevy Cavalier, a truly epic piece of shit by any standard.

Anybody who thinks they are super rich and better than you because their car payment is $50 higher than someone elses or because their car cost $3000 more. *fwap fwap*

Smugness pretty much scales inversely to age and proportional to cost or perceived cost based on brand label.

50 yr old man in a Prius, not smug
50 yr old man in a Vette, not smug
30 yr old man in a SVT Cobra with 600+ horsepower, not so smug
16 yr old in a V6 Mustang with tinted windows and chrome wheels, smug
16 yr old in a Corolla, not smug
16 yr old in a brand new BMW or Mini, smug
16 yr old in a Prius with a Aquafina battle in one hand and a cell phone in the other, smug

Heh, I had a 3-series but certainly wasn't smug about it, it was a weak 325i auto.

I had an E39 M5 as well, and was very happy with it, but never bragged about it or had an attitude. I even debadged it, and was looking for a 525i badge lol.

Smugness pretty much scales inversely to age and proportional to cost or perceived cost based on brand label image.

Formula:

smug factor = (perceived value * image stigma) / age

Examples:

50 yr old man in a Prius, not smug
50 yr old man in a Vette, not smug
30 yr old man in a SVT Cobra with 600+ horsepower and no bling, not too smug, lust a little but who wouldn't be
16 yr old in a V6 Mustang with tinted windows and chrome wheels, smug
16 yr old in a SVT Cobra, smug for about a week, then his corpse has to be peeled from a tree
16 yr old in a Corolla, not smug
16 yr old in a brand new BMW or Mini, smug

16 yr old liberal democrat in a Prius with a Aquafina battle in one hand and a cell phone in the other, with an ipod, iphone, and a ibook, doesn't have a job, hangs out at starbucks 24/7, smug meter just broke

35 yr old with a brand new M3, not too smug, lust a little but who wouldn't be
hip hop 16 yr old with a 10 yr old 3 series with a Xenon kit and wheels from a 2006 BMW pretending he has a $100,000 car when he tells everyone he drives a bimmer but avoids mentioning the year even when asked, smug

The preferred brands for smug appeal are the likes of BMW, Lexus, Mercedes. There is a market for people who can only afford an Accord but want to be "ballin". These are the people you see driving C class mercedes and used 318i who talk big because they have a "benz" or a "bimmer". Or they have some used Lexus they got for $12k and they think they are better than someone with a Toyota.

Absolutely hilarious.

I honestly think Toyota owners are stuck up and smug. Seems like they all think their cars are going to last forever and get 100 mpg and have rose smelling exhaust.
