In fact, I think that the Babe had a lifetime winning record against Walter Johnson, who Mikal promotes as the greatest all-time.

He also had several games during which he pitched magnificently and hit homers (before homers were considered a big deal).

The Babe's manager at the time used to ridicule suggestions of allowing the babe to play outfield full-time, saying that "Can you imagine what an idiot I'd have to be to convert the best lefthanded pitcher in the game?"
