There's no guarantee that he was the chosen one -- that's just how Qui-Gon interpreted the prophecy.

The prophecy of the Chosen One was that he would bring balance back to the Force. Throughout Episodes 1 - 3, Yoda and Mace talk about how the Force is becoming clouded and dark and they know there is a very powerful Sith around somewhere.

Anakin is the one that finally killed Palpatine, thus removing the heavy dark side focus that was spinning the Force well into the dark side.

In what sense? Mastery of the Force? Light Sabre Technique?

Yoda for the Force
Anakin Skywalker for Lightsabre
Luke Skywalker for Balance

-book spoiler-

Mara Jade Skywalker because she's a redhead.

I haven't read about Ben Skywalker yet, but I bet he's bad ass when he grows up.

-end-

Remo Williams could take the Yogurt man any day.

He may have been named after a bedpan but he can dodge bullets and start fires with two fingers.

The greatest jedi... anakin was by far the strongest. But luke became very adept very quickly, and did kick start the new republic. I'd have to say luke on this one.

I always took the "restore balance to the force" to mean that there were WAY too many good Jedi vs. Evil Jedi. Killing the good ones left Emperor and Vader vs. Obi-wan and Yoda (until Luke was born). Hence the good and evil portions of the Force were finally balanced out.

As to the greatest Jedi: Palpatine/the Emperor. He took over the damn galaxy, what can make someone greater than that? More importantly, he used JAR-JAR BINKS to help him do it! (vote of no confidence in ep 2). If he can turn such a hated, stupid character into the basis for the foothold of the Empire, he is truly a genius and a master of the force.

Yoda was acknowledged as "the finest swordsman" by Obi Wan and his master.

Thus Yoda.

Remember, Yoda was like an ooooooollllld man (i.e. several hundred years) when he was fighting in the Star Wars movies and he was still SPRY! (never was really defeated. Make him middle age and would own ALL!

Mace Windu was pretty badass.
Yep. He beat the Emperor fair and square, until Anakin betrayed him.

So either him or Yoda.

Then again, you could say Qui Gon, since he found out how to become immortal.

Anakin aka Darth Vader

Luke never would have taken him out if he hadn't turned against the emperor and gotten nailed with the stray force lightning.
Luke had already beaten Vader before the lightning attack ever happened. Luke got the lightning treatment because he refused to finish Vader off after defeating him.
