Here are my nerd qualifications:
I build computers for fun
I work all day at a computer
I belong to a discussion forum based on computers
I own every game system on the market today and many games
I own the Aliens boxed set, The Matrix, and X-Men on DVD
I can name every character in Robotech
I picked my screenname after a Transformer
I am re-reading my leather-bound 5 book set of The Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy (BTW, they never found the answer - the "roads" one was made up by Benji mouse, the one they pulled out of the scrabble bag wasn't right: "What do you get when you multiply...", the real answer occured to Fenny/Fenchurch, but was lost in a space-time anomoly. And the one thing they did find was God's final message to His creation: "We apologize for the inconvenience"
I proudly wear my Decepticon logo t-shirt to work
I not only still have all my Transformers/Star Wars/assorted sci-fi toys, but they are:
a) In a specially constructed room for them on display
b) regularily taken off the shelf to partake in massive space battles
c) I am still buying new ones (found the big Jetstorm last week!)
I watch Star Wars, Buffy, Dark Angel, Escaflowne, Princess Mononoake, Gundam Wing, Simpsons, Futurama...
I can argue whether a Federation class Starship can defeat a Star Destroyer (NO!)
I built my home theater system
I can solder quite well
I know more useless sci-fi trivia than I know what to do with.
I cry everytime I see Apollo 13 and The Iron Giant
Things that take away from my nerd ranking:
1) Don't really look like one (No glasses)
2) Have a gorgeous wife
3) Play contact sports (ice hockey)
4) HATE Star Trek
Hmmm... I think the scales still tip heavily toward nerd-dom!
