I think the next few years will determine his historical standing, but I don't see where he doesn't belong in the discussion.

* I counted seasons where they started at least 12 of the 16 regular season games, to try to mitigate injury / backup years

The problem with this logic is that it gives the quarterback all the credit for the win regardless of how it happened. By that metric, Trent Dilfer is the equivalent of Peyton Manning because both won a Superbowl, never mind that Peyton was the Superbowl MVP and Dilfer was not. I'm not saying that Joe Flacco doesn't deserve to be considered elite with the numbers he's put up, but his team was gutted in the offseason; do you really think he's going to continue to win lots of playoff games?

I mean, really, if you could take any of those players to be the QB of your franchise going forward from today, who is picking Flacco over Rodgers? I can understand passing over Manning or Brady for age reasons, but you'd honestly take Flacco over Rodgers based on playoff wins ignoring how those wins came about? That's silly.

A more interesting QB question; which one of the youngsters (Kaepernick, RG3, Wilson, Luck, Newton, Dalton) has the brightest future (granted, Blaine Gabbert is clearly the number one option, but who has the second brightest future)?

A lot has to do with other intangibles, last year the Patriots had one of the top scoring offenses in the league, this year Brady has a bunch of greenhorn's and it sure showed last night. One of those intangibles is having a guy who can almost always get open and help out a QB, that would be Welker, even the best QB whomever you may think it is has to have receivers that run correct routes, break tackles, catch the damm ball and an offensive line that gives him time to execute, I'm predicting that PM might have the best year of his career this year due to two fundamental facts, he's very good and he has the intangibles needed for huge success..

I know a lot of people use this argument, but IMO it holds no merit. Rings are team accomplishments. If rings were the big differentiators, then Jim Mcmahon would be better than Dan Marino. As much of a bears fan as I am, that just isn't true. I know thats a bit more of an extreme example, but I think its a valid one (at least in this sport). A closer example would be Eli vs Peyton/Brady. Just look at this list, and Eli isn't even on it.

Personally, my vote goes to Manning. Rodgers is an excellent QB (unfortunately), but I don't think hes on the level of Manning. IMO you start Mannings career over and put him on the Pack and hes unstoppable.

Brady is also a great QB, but I think he has benefitted a ton from the franchise he is in. The Pats as a whole have totally turned their franchise around, and the Brady / Belicheck offensive scheme turned out to be a match made in heaven. But put Brady on another team and I don't think hes nearly the impact player that everyone thinks.

This was why on the big "Top NFL players of 20xx" that they do every year, 2-3 years ago the top 2 players were manning and brady I believe, and people were arguing who was better. Put manning on the pats and brady on the colts, manning will walk over the rest of the league.

Put Manning on THIS years Patriots and he sucks, not because HE sucks, there's just no one to throw to who wont drop the ball or run a correct route, it's a team game and the surroundings have to be there.

So you have two quarterbacks with the following playoff records:

A: 9 Wins, 11 losses 1 Superbowl across 14 whole seasons played
B: 9 Wins, 4 losses 1 Superbowl across 5 whole seasons played
.
A is Peyton Manning
B is Flacco

I think he is at least a valid poll choice

meh, he might not even be the 2nd best QB in his division, there's definitely no way he should be on this list

and dan marino didn't even win a superbowl.

you think trent dilfer is better than dan marino?

Not sure if serious. Put Brady on another team, the offense would be changed to accommodate him. If he went to play for SF, trust me, they wouldn't be running the Pistol formation for him.

As much as it pains me to say it... which one has more than one ring out of that list?

Irrelevant as his teams defense won those for him with spygate. After getting busted, they have had to run the score up on everyone to win. When they haven't been able to run the score up, they tend to lose. Patriots fans can say whatever they want, but the Patriots have not won a Super Bowl since getting busted. They played in two more and did not run up the score nor have their defense know the offensive calls as they were going out.

I voted for Rodgers.

False. Regardless of the team a qb has around him it usually comes down can the qb make the play to win the game or not. That game winning drive, the coming from behind, etc. is what separates the great (Peyton) from the legends of the game (Montana,Brady).

Lolololololololololololol - breathe - bwahahahahahahahahahahaha

Manning >>>> Brady

Really, let's break this down to reality, first off teams are allowed to tape during games, what the BB was doing was taping from the sideline to get a clearer view. Second, Since the start of the '07 season, New England has gone 76-20 in the regular season. In the six seasons before the scandal, the Patriots are 70-26. Third, they didn't couldn't "run the score up" against the Giants in either SB's because the Giants had one of the best D lines ever and a clutch 4th qtr QB who did a great job in both games, it still took the miracle "helmet" catch to beat the Pat's in the first meeting and an incredible throw and catch by Eli and Manningham in the second, credit due for both outstanding plays.Forth, it's about execution, how many 3rd and five's did Brady complete to Welker? too many to count, think the other teams they were playing didn't know where the ball was going?, of course they did, they just couldn't stop it. How many deep passes did Peyton Manning complete to Marvin Harrison when he played for the Colts? too many to count, same thing of course, other teams knew who was getting the ball, they just again, couldn't stop it. Fifth if you think the Patriots were the only team to try and steal signals, here's a quote from an SI article in 2002, “Our guy keeps a pair of binoculars on their signal-callers every game,” says Broncos coach Mike Shanahan. “With any luck, we have their defensive signals figured out by halftime. Sometimes, by the end of the first quarter.” Here's a blog by Jimmy Johnson, "Spygate, an inconvenient truth" http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/8347748/8348419.So there you have it, they "ran up the score" in the 2007 season because of TB in his prime, a rejuvenated Rand Moss and a good defense.
