Who is running RC5 and S@H on the same machine?

Give me some input. Is it worth it to do this type of thing? Or will one completely kill the performance of another?

I was running both on a laptop that I had to manually dial in for SETI. When the SETI WU would end in the middle of the night, RC5 would kick on.

A combination screensaver for SETI and RC5 all the time works well.

SETI does kill RC5 performance. The reason is that SETI uses up all the spare CPU cycles so RC5 has none to use. Running SETI in screen saver mode is the only efficient way to do both.

But make sure you have the SETI screen saver blank the screen in zero minutes. Otherwise it will go at a snail's pace. :)

I've been running both for about a week now & the jury is still out.Like Michael I like when seti stops Rc5 kicks in full speed.

I mostly am a SETI guy.
On a fast machine with lots of ram, that is all I run, all the time.

SETI is too much of a pig on my slower machine, so when I'm on it, I run RC5.
SETI only runs in the "screensaver set to blank mode" on this one. When SETI runs RC5 gets no resources.
If SETI does not get a work unit for any reason, RC5 will run.

"Screensaver set to blank"?

I have seti on one machine as a trial in screensaver with RC5 in the background. Seti kills RC5 dead.

I need to have a password protected screensaver on this one machine, so I tried the seti one. Very slow to get through a WU. Does the screensaver set to blank speed up the process whilst still letting me use a password locked screensaver?

If you set the screensaver to "blank screen" (still SETI, just a setting within that screensaver), you will really speed up your times. It takes a fair amount of CPU effort to draw the graphics. If you blank your screen, it'll just work on the WU instead of drawing the pretty graphics.

seti has a slightly higher priority than rc5, even though they are both dead last.

I do both and all is fine.

I just make sure the screen is set to go blank after a minute or so.
