That will indeed be interesting. Frankly I find it hard to believe Donny contributed anything of much consequence to this "partnership," but the terms of his written contract will be the key to understanding whether he has any legitimate claim.

At one point Adam explained what had happened with Donny. If memory serves he said he brought in Mike August to help make their operation larger and more professionally run, and immediately August and Donny started fighting. Adam said he repeatedly told Donny that he needed to get along with Mike or Adam would have to make a change, but Donny kept agitating Mike and eventually Adam let him go. Once Donny left, his cousin Sandy Ganz left as well.

Donny strikes me as a person with no business acumen whatsoever, and I find it amazing that (according to that article) someone other than Adam was paying him $231K to do anything. I was always mystified by how badly Donny handled it when he shut down Daves of Thunder - Dameshek was obviously pissed and thought Donny's behavior was ridiculous. Certainly the Carolla Network has only grown and become more successful since Donny left.

I think you are right, Adam would air his grievances with Donny on air all the time (which was always entertaining.) It is true Donny was the one who got Adam to go into podcasting. If Donny and his wife did contribute capital then this lawsuit could go against Carolla even without a written agreement. I listened to Adam's main podcast until early 2012 when guests sometime only get 10 minutes and instead we have Adam ranting more and telling the same stories over and over. But i see they have Adam and Dr. Drew now and that is a good podcast.

I am sure there will be a lot of podcast's used as evidence for this suit.

I listened from the very beginning, but then I stopped when Theresa came back nearly full time because I cannot stand her; her voice is like a drill to the brain and she is painfully unfunny. Now that Alison is there, the show is far more enjoyable and I listen religiously (except for the live shows which I hate). It's funny because I don't really align politically with Adam at all, but I find the show funny/interesting more often than I don't and will keep listening until that ends.

By the way today's show had Leo LaPorte on to talk about another lawsuit filed against him by some patent holder which already one $8.0 million from Apple. Should be another interesting one to follow since it seems they will, if this works, eventually go after everyone who puts out a podcast.

I will have to listen to today's show, I like Leo's podcast TwiT and I used to listen to his The Tech Guy show. This is another example of why we need major patent reform.

I liked Theresa but she has issues including chemical dependency yet was entertaining.

He is only on briefly as it seemed somewhat impromptu, but interesting nonetheless. I'm a big Leo fan and listen to him weekly too; it sounds like he may come back again soonish to discuss the lawsuit further.

I liked Theresa but in general I do like Alison better - she seems to pair better with Adam and sometimes she comes up with some really hilarious lines.

Neither here nor there, but i went to high school with her. She sounds like mot of the Jewish girls I dated.

It is funny, I do not like the live shows that much either. However, they have their moments, so I still listen to them.

All kinds of stuff, mainly Sports (Dameshek, BS Report, Grantland which has a bunch of different stuff, Kornheiser, The Basketball Jones, Behind the Bets, Baseball Today, etc.), Movie (FilmJunk, Kermode, Doug Loves Movies, Flmspotting, RowThree, etc.) and Comedy (Earwolf stuff, Fitzdog Radio, a couple others) stuff though.

The NPR ones are good too, particularly It's All Politics and Planet Money, Firewall & Iceberg is good for TV stuff, the Slate feed is decent as they cover various things, and of course Stuff You Should Know is good. I could keep going; I listen to a LOT of podcasts! :D

Alison is easier on the eyes.

Definitely.

I was being a tad hyperbolic, I will listen to a live show if there is a particular guest I am interested in, but they are rarely anywhere close to as good as the regular shows.

I definitely prefer the in-studio shows, but some of the live shows (e.g., the Mike Birbiglia/Ira Glass one that got Adam so pissed at Ira) have been great.

I have to find that Ira Glass one. I could have seen Adam when he came to minneapolis, but without Alison and Bald Bryan seeing him live is not as good as studio podcasts.

If you are not already listening to these you should check them out :

  • This American Life - topics that sound boring but usually are very good.
How Did This get Made - reviews of bad movies like Anaconda
Yeah Its That Bad - also review bad movies, but recently have had some good ones like Oldboy.
