Who is more of a jerk? Harely or rice rocket cyclists?

Where I'm from I tend to see Harley motorcyclists being more of an asshole between the two. From rev'ing their exhaust over and over in parking lots and gas stations, rev'ing at cars too close to let them split lanes to blowing through metered on-ramps. The rice rocket riders tend to be more wreckless like weaving through traffic and other stuff though.

Harley by far. Sportbikers like myself might be annoying but we are efficient and out of your way in no time. Harley guys like to drive their pos 55mph try to look cool and all the while you have to hear their exhausts 3 miles away.

FTR-there are jerks in both groups and good people in both groups. I don't like open pipes though and that tends to be more the Harley crowd.

While the first part of your post is true, the later part is just complete nonsense. I've been riding for a few years and never ride like a maniac, weaving in and out of traffic...nor do any of my sportbike riding friends. Fact is, youth and inexperience tends to kill riders more than the type of bike they're riding and sportbikes tend to appeal more to younger riders.

So please, stop generalizing and trying to paint all riders of a specific type of bike with one brush, it makes you sound like an idiot.

There was a thread on here a while back about loud pipes that ended with a few of my posts mysteriously disappearing after I illustrated someone's hypocrisy on the subject.

So my vote is the guys with loud pipes. I don't buy "loud pipes save lives" AT ALL anymore.

My co-worker rides and he said the same thing. Especially when drivers have their tunes cranked. Some municipalities (Edmonton, Alberta I think) are cracking down on the loud bikes. About time too.

The thing is, I've heard so many bikers talk for hours about safety and how loud pipes make divers more aware of them and reduce accidents.

But the disjoint comes when they turn around a grunt about how their bikes sound, or tell stories about scaring kids, etc. I've never seen a guy with loud pipes NOT be a braggart about it. They cover up briefly when they need to be defensive about it, but it doesn't last.

Bike engines sound different than car engines - doesn't need to be loud to know one's nearby.

Around my house it's the ricers. Harleys are loud, but none of the owners in my area are dicks about them. The ricers use a street nearby to gun the shit outta their bikes (which honestly I think get just as loud at speed).

Some guy got himself killed a few weeks ago when he was speeding with his lights off at night. Some poor woman in her husband's truck pulled out right in front of him since he wasn't visible.

usually harley guy, but once and a while i get behind a nice sportbike going pathetically slow and that tends to annoy me more.

sorta like how ferarri/porsche/vette guy rarely if ever match the speed of traffic or get in the fast lane.

In my experiences around Atlanta, Athens (GA), and Baton Rouge, it's definitely the sportbike crowd who are bigger jerks--likely because they're younger (and this coming from a 10-year sportbike rider).

The Harley/cruiser riders are usually far more laid back in my experience, while it's the crotch rocket guys who shoot by you at 100+mph on the highway while wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops; who race up and down backroads and rural highways; or who incessantly rev their engines at stop lights and--yes, I'm serious--gas pumps.

In my experience harley riders are calm and normal, even in packs. They might be in the left lane but they don't seem to go out of there way to look like asshole drivers.

Ninjas however are just ridiculous. I seriously never see one that isn't being an asshole weaving in and out of traffic, tailgating, swerving etc.

I guess it depends on the area but my impression is that ninjas a 19 year old dbags that think they are cool and will probably end up with their skulls implanted in the back of a semi one day while hog riders are just chillin'

Stop generalizing? This whole thread is about generalizing. I have seen plenty of guys on sportbikes going way too fast or weaving in and out of traffic, much more than any harley riders I have seen. And yes, age does play into it, but having a bike that will go 180 mph also plays into it as well.......

I think they're both fairly courteous groups compared to regular bicyclists. They're the biggest assholes on the road, at least around here. Will always jump ahead of you at a light, go through reds, not yield to pedestrians, etc.

Not all of them, of course, but enough so that it's an issue here. I tip my hat to the responsible cyclists. I feel safe sharing the road with them.
