I feel for you.
though you guys are capable of running the same exact software as the S2.
the only difference are the 4 keys at the bottom and the screen has 4 piezo sensors as opposed to your one button in the middle.

i have not tried the aftermarket OS's. i'm going to stick to stock as to not screw anything up because this is my only phone (no landline) and is CRITICAL for work.

nope S2 is different lol. The hybrids are great though, I it has some 6.0 stuff in there and stuff. Its ok but I hate making mistakes on the on screen keyboard, the slowness is much better though with this hybrid, but still some issues all around. I just cant wait for the D2 to come out. Ill have a QWERTY keyboard.

i love my BB curve on sprint. great reception in the middle of the desert. my phone is my communication device, not a gaming system or a media player. the camera is pretty good when i have problems at work, i can send a pic to management via email very fast so they can see what the issue is. great typing experience. I work in some harsh environments and this phone has survived all of it, build quality is awesome. works great with my bluetooth hands free in my truck too.

the bad: track ball gets dirty, just need to blow it out, sometimes it is slow and hangs up a bit, but every os does this sometimes.

I HATE that.

What about when your phone is locked so you click on a button to wake it up and the screen goes "Screen is locked, press the Power button to unlock" so you hit the power button and it turns the screen off.
wtf is up with that?

Short click it. Long press is power off.

I can tell you with authority that it doesn't. Don't expect BB6 on S2. Evar.

BB is dead in the water

Dead in the water? You and I must have different definitions of this term. I was unaware you refer to being #1 in US smartphone sales as "dead in the water"

Anyway, I had a Blackberry Curve 8330 as a work phone and liked it. The keyboard was awesome, at any rate. I've toyed with the idea of selling my HD2 for a BB Bold if only for the keyboard...but I'm struggling with the idea of shrinking my screen that much.

If the trackball is your only complaint, get the Tour with the touchpad instead. huge improvement over the ball.

Nah, it's just one of my complaints. I also dislike the finicky camera (not the worst, but certainly not void of problems), general OS quirkiness (if I click to view a gallery of pictures, then cancel to go back to the camera while the gallery is loading, it often tries loading the gallery again anyway), slow responsiveness (even with most applications shut down), and the small screen (compared to modern touch screens).

Overall, the phone is very good, but I just prefer something different. I will give it credit for having a great keyboard, good call quality, decent sound profiles, and overall good build quality. It's just too business oriented for what I do. :p

I switched from a Curve 8330 to a Moto Droid, I prefer the Droid by far. My work phone is still a Blackberry Tour though. I still prefer the Droid over it. The Tour is adequate for what I use it for though, which is just work email and calendar. The battery life is horrible, but I think I may have a bad battery.

I setup my moms 8330 before I gave it to he (birthday) and while I admit I prefer the Droid, I see no reason to hate on Blackberry.
And your battery could be bad. If you use some basic power management you'd be surprised how long that bastard can last.

No offense, those links are worthless and in absolutely no way refute what I said. Despite Android's gains, RIM is still on top.

RIM is still doing very, very well in the domestic smartphone business. You simply cannot deny this. Whether you like their products or not, sales show that a lot of people and/or companies do.

I have a S1 and I am using a hybrid OS which has some BB6 files in it.

Yea but they use different OS's like I cant use a S2 OS on my S1, it has to be made for the S1.

10% down in one day and you don't see a problem...the market does not agree with you..

Yea, and as long as consumers are still buying the phones, the stock market doesn't reflect the real market, either. The stock market doesn't always tell the whole story. For instance - do you think Apple - as an entire company, not in the mobile market - is worth more than Microsoft? The stock market does, I don't think too many others do.

Blackberry is *not* dead in the water. Period. This is a fact. I don't know why certain people cannot accept this fact. They have done very well, and they are continuing to do very well. You can dislike their products, but to disagree with this statement is simply incorrect.

yeah and you are the sole judge of that..

No, I'm not, its the millions of consumers that are continuing to purchase Blackberry devices, seemingly despite your dire warnings of their death, that are the judge of that.

You don't think millions of people buy Blackberry devices? They do. They also increased their net income from 1.89 to 2.49 billion year of year from 2009-2010. They are still the #1 selling smartphone in the United States. Regardless of your personal ire towards the Storm line, they are still #1 in the United States.

Seriously - these are facts, I don't know why you are trying to debate this.

- Multitouch surepress
- OpenGL ES support (This is actually in the S1 hardware, but disabled)
- Proximity Sensing
- 256Mb RAM vs 128Mb

1. Blackberry still has a stranglehold on businesses.

2. Blackberries are cheap, often free now, and have generally been lower priced than the iphones of the world.

3. For people whose Internet use of the phone doesn't extend far beyond email (the big brother of texting), the form factor is great and they work well. It's probably less scary as a 'my first smart phone' than those giant touch screen devices with tons of apps and functionality and gets far away from the core experience of being a phone/communications device.

umm in desktop manager some files show up as version is 6.xxx.xxx w/e

which is 6.0 lol

Don't think I wouldn't love it to be the case, but BB6 is non-existant inside RIM for devices that are already launched, and especially for one that is two years old (S1). We get prototypes all the time, my wifes in the Beta device program, etc, etc, so I'm not making this up, you're just not using any OS6 files.

By all means take a screen cap of DTM, but also include a cap of your device about screen.

Eh? Phone function is 'primitive'? How so? The call quality has always been one of the best, they've always had the ability to conference, they have integration into corporate telephone systems, UMA calling, etc. Which part is primitive?

As for the resolution, even the Bold 9000 has a 225dpi screen, the Storm Range 186dpi. iPhone prior to 4 is just 160dpi, is it's resolution 'suck'?

Cheap hardware. Hmm. Really? Funny as it's normally one of the better built brands out there, as many have attested in this thread. Even the iPhone 4 has been plagued by screen "piss stains" and antenna issues, but I guess that's just because SJ wanted that to happen, as it's magical.

Talk shit all you want, but talk shit you can back up or stop trolling.
