Who is good at guitar/listening to songs

Alright people. Me and from friends are trying to play a few songs. One of them is "damnit" by blink 182 (yah yah popular song I know, but they didn't wanna play a tight song like Pathetic). But during the NON palm muted verse, and during the chorus, I can't figure out the strumming pattern. Like in the palm muted part of the verse, it sounds like 4 or 5 times of hitting the chords at the same tempo. But with the verse and chorus, it kind of sounds like he has a little pattern like hit, hit, TINY pause, hit, hit, or whatever.

And what's a good tone for punk songs. I can't really get it right. I have the "tone" on the guitar at 10, the little 5 way selector switch so it's all the way down (I think that is the one for only the bridge pickup) so it's more of a high pitched sound. I usually have the bass on my amp at 4 or 5, the treble at 6 or 7, but I'm not sure about the MID. And then I have a Thrash button, which when enabled is like turning the MID way down. I always played with that on and with the mid around 3 because I used to play Nirvana and that's how it sounded but I want to get a general punk sound now. ANy ideas?

Any help?

I don't know how you want your punk to sound, but if I want to get a bad-ass Master of Puppets type sound, this is what I do.

1. Turn up volume and tone knobs on your guitar all the way. This is important.
2. You should only be on the bridge pick-up.
3. If your amp has a gain and a master volume, turn up gain all the way. Turn bass to 10, treble to ~6 and midrange ~2. The equalizer is a little more personal taste.
4. Now turn up your master volume as loud as you can stand it.

Rock on!

The classic metal-scoop. 😀 This works well for a fat punk sound too.. Make sure you have a nice humbucker in the bridge.

I'm good at listening to songs, I've been playing guitar for about 3 years now...

The "Crunch" setting I use.. I just have a Fender Strat running through a Boss MetalZone and a Crate GX-15 practice amp..

Low - 9 o' clock
Mid - 7 o' clock(All the way down)
Mid Freq - 10 o' clock
High - 3 o' clock
Distortion/Gain - 5 o' clock(all the way max)

The settings on my amp are:

Low - 9 o' clock
Mid - 3 o' clock
High- 12 o' clock

🙂
I only play Metallica and Iced Earth.. lol

lemme download your song.. lol

i cant fiture out which part your referring to, give me some lyrics from that part and mabye i can help you

First verse: "I know that you're leaving you must have your reasons the season is calling, your pictures are falling down"

2nd verse: "A day late, a buck short, im writing the report, of losing and failing when I move i'm flailing now"

The guitar during those two parts is what I'm not sure the strumming is.
