Who is going to skip 1156/1366, and wait for Bulldozer?

That's my plan, at least. Stock up on high-end 775 quads, and ride out the next year or so until Bulldozer. I suppose it's up in the air if it will work in AM3, or maybe they'll come out with AM3+ or something.

Lest you think I'm an AMD fanboy - I've purchased 2xQ6600, 2xQ9400, 2xQ9550, 3xQ8200, and like 4xE5200, and 2xE2140. In the same timeframe, I've purchased two AMD X2 dual-cores, and a laptop with a TF-20 in it (which I love, it supports virtualization and Flash 10.1 hardware acceleration with HD3200 graphics).

Edit: Forgot, I did also purchase a S939 Opteron 165, X2 3800, and recently, a used X2 4800.

Nevertheless, if Chuck Moore is enthusiastic for BDzr as heard in his talk in the Analyst Day at the APU section, a modest and polite person, then i take his words for granted, it will be good stuff especially when priced competitively to Sandy Bridge from Intel.

Bulldozer sounds interesting, but who knows, it could end up being a bust. Too early to tell, I guess. And AMD has been at a disadvantage over the years because they're slower to transition to smaller process nodes. Even if Bulldozer ends up being a solid architecture, if Intel is at 22nm while AMD is still at 32nm, they'll still have trouble staying competitive.

Price is going to be more important to me than anything, right now the Phenom 2's are overpriced they need to drop their prices on all their cpus to the sub $150 -$140 range max because that would keep them competitive against Intels superior technology. If they concentrated on keeping their products relatively to the level of the Phenom 2 on par with what Intel has currently, I dont see where they could go wrong, as Long as they Keep prices significantly lower than Intel. Price must be the cornerstone of AMD because if its just $10- 20 dollars more for a 2x faster Intel product people will obviously choose Intel.

s1156 suits my bang for buck side much better.

I'm not skipping anything. I upgrade when I feel "it's time" to upgrade. I'll probably skip S1156 though, as I see no reason to buy it over S1366 unless Intel puts out something compelling and better performing than on S1366 (Unlikely, given S1366 is the enthusiast platform). Until then, my AM2+ 940BE and 790GX board will do just fine thanks.

I'm not waiting on principal towards AMD/intel products or anything.. just have no reason to upgrade my q9550 right yet. When I feel I need (or really want a new pc) I'll get whatever is best. Usually I upgrade my CPU/MB every two years, we will see what things look like in October. (and if I still have a job)

Almostly certainly skip. I have a nice 775 setup, a Q9650 and an E8600. I'm a Gamer, and purely for gaming, Nehalem etc. just isn't worth the money to me.

I'll wait 'til 5870s come back down or Fermi arrives, that's the next upgrade for me.

honestly? I voted to wait for BD but not for the reason people think. first I don't think BD will exceed performance of Intel i7s with 32nm process. but I think Intel's pricing for cpus above 200 hasn't moved since they got introduced purely due to lack of competition. so waiting for BD will put more pressure on Intel pricing maybe finally I can get a decent 32nm quad from Intel for $150 then. That's what I'm waiting for. but in case of the small chance BD is a blazer, well I can always choose it.

I'll wait another year.Instead I will upgrade my E2180 to a Q8400/Q9400 early this year. For my P35/E8400 system I'll slap in an SSD later in the year.

Good question. I generally just buy whatever is available when I need a computer. I don't buy stuff before I need to and I don't wait for something that may never happen (Duke Nukem Forever).

I'm waiting at least till SB. I don't feel a need to upgrade right now as my current rig performs marvelously for what I do. When SB comes out, I will re-evaluate. If there is a tangible benefit to upgrading, I will. If not, I'll keep on trucking. With the way software is moving tho, I'm prob just going to keep upgrading gfx cards until my cpu burns out (I'm sure Intel/AMD are happy to hear that...)!

You are right about gfx cards. With newer stuff like direct compute and the new flash player, upgrading the video card is starting to have more importance. The reason my laptop cant play youtube but my friend's can is entirely due to having different gfx cards.

I may look into a Thuban upgrade(strickly to improve 3ds max render time over my X4), otherwise I'll be waiting until BD. AMD currently doesn't have anything that woudl be a worth while upgrade for me, and I don't want to shell out the money for a whole new build to get I7. I've already got 3 AM2+ systems powered by X4 processors.
