Who is Darth Bane?

I read somewhere that there's a Sith named Darth Bane. Who is he? And what does he do in relation to the Star Wars story? Will he be in Ep. III?

When the Sith began destroy each other the only one to escape was Darth Bane.

He was the one that started the rule of only having two Sith at any one time.

One of them, yes. I don't think it was ever in a book. A comic book, more than likely, but I'm not positive. I never owned or read any of them, just vaguely familiar with the backstory.

I think it would be great to see a movie or show based on the Knights of the Old Republic and the forming of the Sith order.
