At work, 60* out

Fucking Californians

Nah, I'm in Atlanta, GA.

Just surprisingly warm today.

Yeah it surprised me when I walked out my front door today and realized it was so warm. Around 53 here, but with scattered showers.

Kent State shut down, which is awesome. But they should have stayed open.

Haha. My college would close because of bad weather, as I suspect most smarter schools would do when necessary.

Its 55 degrees here and sunny. Some advantages of living in the desert. But I'm working from home (on crutches, and kinda sick).

Didn't make it in to work yesterday, but got here today. Massive ice at my place in central KY. I measured the ice on my car at 1 1/4" thick last night. My electric went out about 9pm last night, slept in sub-50 degree temps, and forced my way into work today since I didn't want to sit in the cold and dark at my house.

My neighborhood is kind of old, so there are huge trees everywhere. It looks like a warzone, trees are down everywhere, including in my front and back yard. Luckily nothing has hit my house yet, but I have a ton of cleanup to do. Guess I'll finally buy that chainsaw I've been needing :).

I'm hoping my electric is restored so I don't have to stay at a hotel tonight, but I'm not optimistic.

don't know how you did it... when we lose heat completely (our oil line freezes if not plugged in), it drops to about 59F and it is unbearable. We have 2 infants so even though it was 4am I had to get a guy to come fix it.

Of course my girlfriend is off again today, teacher.
She texts me at 6 am asking do I really have to go in so early... I'm like yeah, Some of us don't have the luxury of a 2 hour delay or a day off because its slippery.
They have worked 1 full, normal week in the past month and a half. Such BS

But teachers are overworked and underpaid!

It's just my wife and I (plus our dog). If I had infants like you, we would've definitely headed to a hotel or something. I say it was sub-50's because our thermostat only goes down to 50, so there's no telling how low it was. It was around mid-20's last night I think, and our house isn't well insulated.

I'm dreading trying to figure out our plans if we get home later tonight and our electric is still out. The transformer blew about 3 houses down (I actually was outside when it happened, it was pretty cool to see), and even though it appeared that a decent chunk was left of it, it was completely gone this morning. I'm hoping that means the electric people had already been out working on it. But there are tens of thousands of people without power in KY, so I don't look for it be on later tonight.

I don't know how bad it is down there, but when we had the big ice storm in 98 we didn't get power back for almost two weeks. There were some people that had the line to their house down that didn't get it back for a bit longer. I know it was at least 4-5 days (or more?) or something for a lot of people in NH when they got clipped just recently by an ice storm.

Hopefully its not that kind of bad down there though.

We're in lexington, so far we still have power. Our cable line fell down last night, still connected to the house but came off the poll. Internet still works though. Unconnected telephone line came down earlier this morning, power is still hanging on though.

Nope. Unemployed as of last Friday (end of contract). Thank god this storm was a day late, I just did my driving test yesterday (passed, boo ya!).

I'm at work too, even though it was almost freezing this morning!

I didn't mention I work from my La-z-Boy chair at home though :D Rarely have to go into one of our offices during the winter.
