I wear contacts during the day, glasses right now. My prescription is -4.25, whatever that means. I'm hoping to get Lasik sometime soon.

Who do "bad eyes" have to do with wearing glasses or contacts?:Q

i have very [very] good eyes . . . however, i am nearsighted and wear glasses and contacts :p

:D

Well, I am near sighted also. Cannot see far away. So if your near sighted? How do you have very good eyes?

why do you insist on calling nearsightedness "bad eyes"? . . . they are simply nearsighted and especially suited to doing things very close up. ;)

no eye diseases and detail and color is excellent!

Since my eyes can be "corrected" easily to 20/20 by basic lenses, they are good eyes indeed

:D

anyway, this last week, my contact prescription changed from -6.5 to -5.5 over the course of 2 years

it was slowly the 'other way' for all my life

Well, like I said, Im nearsighted also. cant see a damn thing even if im 2 feet from the monitor at 1024 resolution. At nite. I think I see a dog jumping off the side of the road into the road, and to find out...it is a end of a gaurd rail. If I see a skid mark, or something like a car that spun his tires in the road, It looks like a log or stick in the road to me and I swerve. So I had to correct my vision. So I guess according to you, I have very very good eyes.

Glasses for reading ... play most sports (except golf) without them. Just get a headache after a while.

of course . . . if they are healthy and correctable they are "good"

i HATE to hear nearsightedness described as "bad eyes" . . . :p
"bad eyes:" would be diseased or worse. ;)

and don't try to get away with "bad eyesight" . . . it is properly called myopia or NEAR-sightedness and it is certainly no "worse" than being FAR-sighted . . . the "worst" thing you could call them are visual defects compared to the human norm . . .

I used to have -7.50 in both eyes, but I got lasik a month ago. My left eye is 20/20, but my right eye is a little weak.

I've had glasses since I was 8 and contacts since I was 13.

-8.5 in each eye. My eyes have steadily gotten worse since I was 8 yrs old. My mom can't even have lasik surgery because if she did she would only get to where I am at right now. She's -13 or some thing insane like that.

Speaking of lasik. If I know my eyes gradually get worse each year(thankfully I am down to a new perscription every 2 years instead of every year) will lasik even help? Will my eyes continue to worsen or will the worsening stop after lasik?

I have perfect vision ATM, and I appreciate it. I had astigmatism when I was a child, and to wear glasses for about 4 years, until it corrected itself. Heredity tells me I'll be back in glasses in 5 years or so, and contacts won't be an option. :(

Well, honestly, it does sound like you know more about eye's than I do. And I do mean that. They did tell me I had NO eye problem's. That my eye's were really healthy. Maybe Ive just been under the impression they were bad cause I just couldnt see. I do see what you are saying though. With my contact's, they are 20-20. Explain this though, My wife, has some trouble seeing far away ( near sighted ) and up close ( far sighted ). They gave her glasses cause they say contact's cannot correct that. I dont know, but I thought they could. How can you be both far and near sighted in both eyes though?

Naw . . . it's just that is is common for people to refer to their myopia with "I have bad eyes" . . .

it will never change

and to the OP - there are eye conditions that cannot be corrected by contacts. Astigmatism is one of them [well corrected by very expensive C-lenses]

I swear to god I've seen commercials saying that they've got contacts for people with astigmatism, it's with the two hot chicks trying out glasses and decide not to...

I've always wondered how vision was inherited genetically. Both of my parents have some vision issues (Dad has really bad astigmatism, Mom has mild to moderate myopia) yet I, fortunately, have always had good vision (until recently - I blame computer screens :p). My sister, OTOH, has vision similar to my dad's.
