Who here walks the path? Which path are you walking?

Who here walks the path?

In asia most people are like that, they study hard, get a degree. Work as engineers, buy a house, get married and have kids. Its a cycle.

How are you walking your path?

For me, first of all, I took my time to finish my university course, afterwards I took 3 months off to help my mom in her business in my homeland, now I'm freelancing here and there, keeping a lookout for a job. I intend to migrate somewhere else in the next three years, somewhere green and cool temperature. Ahh... Just want to live a quiet life, get enough to pay my expenses and maybe some extras for retirement. No big ambition I guess. :)

i don't know what i want in life but i know that i don't want to finish school and get a job and then get married and have kids and work to raise them and be at the same job for 30 years, retire, get put in a home and watch all my friends die.

there has to be more choices, i just don't know what they are yet

I never knew exactly what path to take and I've veered off several time before getting on a right path.

Lets see......Engineer, married, two homes, three cars....yikes, I'm in that cycle that you've mentioned.:Q

"Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fvcking big television. Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers..... Choose DIY and wondering who the fvck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind numbing, spirit crushing game shows, stuffing junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fvcked-up brats you spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life.....

But why would I want to do a thing like that?"

Trainspotting. Excellent. :)

But, I must go with the previous answer.
The path of least resistance.

why not gets kids and make them live in a cardboard box in the bathroom :D

Good question. The answer is, I'm not walking the path. I don't want to. Life is a routine, but I want to limit it as much as possible. I want to uncover secrets of mankind and live a pleasant life without being strapped to the traditional practices of school, work, marriage and children. I'll probably eventually get married and, I dread, have kids, but I still have a long way. I want to establish myself and enjoy work in some interestingly odd industries before doing that.

Isn't it scary not to do walk the same path as every body else? Sometimes I feel alienated.

Walking my own. I intend to live life the way I want and not get tied down too much (I get bored if I get stuck in one job/place/whatever for too long). I'm working full time now as an IT tech and studying part time this year (I'm learning different languages so I can travel) and hopefully in a couple of years I'll be off and about in Europe and Asia, probably freelancing away.

There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path...

You are from S'pore yourself right?

I've been here for nrly 5 yrs now. But 5 yrs is not enough to change my mindset I guess. I want to live my life according to my standards. Not according to the 5 Cs - Car, Condo, Credit card, C...etc. <- I forgot whats the rest.

Anyway, its kinda difficult to pursue what I want here, so I'm thinking of packing bags and go to the land of middle earth. Pure NZ... heeeheee...

Cheers
