hey everyone.. im thinking about upgrading my g450 and dont want to run into the same problems i did when i upgraded to a GF2Ti. does anyone here have a gf4 that they use with premiere?

im interested in knowing if the nView is comparable to dualhead on matrox cards and if you can use the following features in premiere with a tv hooked to the gf4..

- print to video
- full screen tv preview while editing

thanks!

*GENERALLY SPEAKING*...the closest thing you'll get to "full screen out while editing" is if you create an additional logical desktop, set the video to full screen, and record the output. Whatever you'd get on a second monitor is what you'll get going to tape (including shifting windows, system trays popping up, etc).

Usually for a clean print to tape, you have to go out through DV/Firewire, or have a high-end analog board (Pinnacle Systems, Canopus, etc) with Premier drivers that output the timeline or assume the output for "print to tape" operations.

I am reasonably certain that what you see from your GF2 board is exactly the same thing you'll see from a GF4, since the drivers are now "unified" (though the GF4 is probably faster/cleaner/less breakups).

There's a pretty decent Premier discussion board on the Pinnacle Website (www.pinnaclesys.com, then support, then DV500 or Pro One, then click on the Premier Discussion link). There are a couple discussions regarding output operations (with/without the Pinnacle boards).

I'm currently shopping around for a GF3Ti500. The Pinnacle board doesn't like any of my ATI video cards and the fastest referenced "working"/compatible video card I've seen so far is the GF3Ti500.

Good Luck

what about a gf4 card, and a pci version of a G450.

have the primary on the gf4 be my main monitor and not use the secondary on the gf4

and have not use the primary on the G450, and the secondary as the TV out for the full screen preview.

i should get a job and get myself a real card, me and my pinnacle DV200.....

thanks for your advise!

I don't think the extra board will help. Many of the responses from Pinnacle tech support seem to focus on PCI bandwidth as the "probable" problem of bad captures, system crashes, poor performance, etc. More often than not, it's the first answer to any complaint of something not working, or working poorly.

(IMHO, I think their hardware interface is marginally compatible and their drivers stink...at least for the DV500+ and to a slightly lesser degree, the Pro One....Canopus is reputed to have none of these problems.)

If you add yet another card to the bus, it will subtract from the available bus resources and may cause more problems. Second to that is that you are still using the same drivers with the same operational modes and limitations.

The 200 is a good board...hold on to it. If you try moving up to the 500+, make sure you get it from somewhere with a good return policy....I couldn't get it to work in either of my primary video machines (2 x PIII @1gig and 2 x Xeon 2gig). I took it back and got a Pro One, which wouldn't work in the Xeon box, but is almost working in the P3 box....but I wanna try another video card before deciding it's a lost cause and moving to the Canopus DV Raptor).

Good Luck

yah, ive been looking at the matrox rt2500 and the pro-one. but before i upgrade, id like to fully exhaust the 200, its a great board to learn premiere on, but rendering kills..

also, i never thought of running out of pci bandwidth, but thats true.

thanks

If you're looking at the Pro One, check out the Pinnacle site for recommended motherboards & video cards. If nothing else, it'll give you a better leg to stand on should you have to deal with tech support.

I've been able to get the Pro One up and mostly working, I'm still having some problems with the DV capture. The video was totall fubar with an ATI 8500DV, so, for a test, I put in an Nvidia GF2 /200 and things are working better, but the GF2 just doesn't have the horsepower...so that's why I'm looking for the GF3Ti500.

From the little I've been able to get out of the Pro One, it's pretty slick. It's not always render free, but most of the time, you can get by just rendering small parts of the timeline/workarea instead of the whole thing. The 3D effects are great.

With a little luck, I should have the new video board in by tonight.

Good Luck
