It's DOS. I've never seen blue screen under dos.

And even if it crashes, I can boot dos in 15 seconds on a 286.

In my experience WinNT4 is a bit more stable...but it's sorely lacking in features....

<< ok but what about not dos ? >>

Then you're not asking a question. Microsoft makes two operating systems: DOS and NT. They also make some graphical shells that sit on top of DOS. (Win 9x, Win ME) But those don't count as operating systems.

I'd agree with rc5 about DOS, but since that's not an option in the list, I'd say that Windows 2000 is probably the best OS that MS has made...but NT4 with good drivers is great, too.

Yep. Problem with DOS was that if there was a buggy program, it basically brought down the whole system...same thing happened in 9x. Win2K rocks!

damnit i was gonna say DOS too :---( damn you for beating me to it.

well, hmm, i think that win2k is one of the most stable OSes that MS has ever released, but a good solid clean install of 98se could also stay up for a while.

Yeah win98SE with nothing installed on it but if u started to install programs/games on it then it would become more unstable where win2k doesnt become less stable with more programs/games installed on it cause if a game or program crashes it wont bring down win2k like it does with win98SE.
And whats the point of just having win98SE with no programs or anything on it?
what could you do ?
not much

I'd say the XP beta has been the most stable to date, depending on what build you use. I personally wouldnt know its a beta unless someone told me. (Or I looked in the corner of my desktop).

Only newbies who have never used DOS in any meaningful way would say DOS is the most stable OS from MS. Sure DOS was a great OS at its most basic of functions, anything more than that and it was a horrible piece of software. DOS never bluescreened. It just froze. Ask anyone familiar with Lotus 1-2-3 and Xywrite and they'll tell you how often the keyboard locked up and the system simply stopped responding. I remember a saying that goes something like this "DOS is not done until Lotus doesn't run."

I've personally locked up my win2k pro box about 3x in the last day. It always happens with the same app, netscape too. For months its' been fine with netscape, but now all of a sudden, after running ns for a while the thing locks up without warning tighter than a drum! I've also noticed that even chanigng netscape windows on win2k boxes is very slow. Something smell fishy? ;)

I agree with also, just another step or two, adn soem different display drivers and/or patches and you get soem good gaming. Especially with nvidia's new drivers, there seems to be no loss in framerate or image quality. Nice work MS.

I have to say that Windows 2000 is the most stable WINDOWS platform to date. It is a rock solid OS FROM MICROSOFT. For gaming, if you don't put enough RAM, like 256MB or more, your system will suffer. The more RAM you can throw at it, the better it will handle.

And to say that DOS is the most stable MS OS is a freaking joke. With DOS, it will just lock up. At least with Windows 9x or NT/2000, you could stop the application or end the TASK. Yes, I know. In Windows 9x/ME it could bring the whole system down also. But try multitaking in DOS. Can't can you? Didn't think so.

No BSOD in DOS? I wonder why? There wasn't any error trapping capability within DOS to display that sort of screen message. At least with UNIX/Linux/Windows, it will give you something.
