I mean, I don't consider myself a critic, but Dreamwork's Antz and Shrek are so far below anything Pixar does I consider them to be unwatchable. Who else "sees" what I see? Sorry, I can't seem to put in words just what it is... :D

Eh well, I'm 22 and probably shouldn't have seen either company's movies

Why was The Prince of Egypt so good?

EDIT: Don't confuse Antz with A Bug's Life! ;) (Which was WORLDS better)

As for putting it into words, how about: Anything Pixar does is clearly WORLDS better than Dreamworks to the point of shame yet no one seems to see it. Case in point: Antz vs. A Bug's Life.

Oh, and Shrek was a worthy st@b but clearly the character design & indeed, even the story should have been scrapped and an entirely different movie should have been made if they expected to become "Pixar-caliber"

Perhaps it was all written in stone so they were doomed to a sub-par movie.

EDIT2: Had trouble editing "ST@B" was the offending word but I was getting a "Page can not displayed" error instead of a description like you normally do.

It's all about the actors. I mean Tom Hanks and Tim Allen totally made Toy Story. Never watched the 2nd one. Monsters, inc was cool because they had cool actors. Ants had Sharon Stone and Sly Stallone. Yeah, she's hot and he's ok in action movies, but Ants is the worst in the genre IMO. Shrek, however, was amazing. I liked it more than Toy Story. Or at least equally as well.
If it ain't obvious, I like cartoon feature films. Takes me back to a time when all I did was play and have fun. *sigh*

Shrek was good, but Antz was terrible. Maybe its cause I hate woody allen, although the plot sucked too.

The thing that makes pixar movies great, is that they are amazing looking, but they also all have great plots that appeal to kids and grown ups alike.

antz, shrek, An American Tail.

to me all of them were enjoyable. Antz and Bugs life were copies of each other. not sure who stole who's idea tho.

i don't remember antz that much (i don't know if i even saw the whole thing, didn't it come out just when a bugs life did?), but shrek was great, better than monsters inc. i think all cgi movies (well, except final fantasy) and most animated movies in general are usually pretty good, due to the meticulous nature of making the movies themselves, they're usually much more thoughtfully done and better quality overall.

Antz came out before Bugs Life, the guy that made it left pixar and there was lots of accusations that he stole the idea or they stole the idea, yadayadayada.

Bugs life was cuter and more for kids, antz was darker.

oh yeah, david geffen (the "g" in dreamworks skg). a friend of mine in hollywood told me all about how the hidden things in shrek that were even more anti-disney than the more obvious things.

Don't confuse Antz with Pixar's A Bug's Life! :) Just the Hopper close-up had more talent than all of Dreamworks put together...

Not good copies. One was CLEARLY superior and that's the issue :)

BTW, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones was NOT the first digital source-to-digital DVD: A Bug's Life was and because it was proudly claimed as such by one of the worlds largest studios (And it was on the box) I have no idea how the Star Wars commercial got away with that claim.

Pixar puts out incredible quality product (I wasn't all that interested in Monsters, Inc. before it came out, but own and love the movie now; I seem to have a similar sort of ennui about Finding Nemo), but the implication that Dreamworks sucks (even by comparison) sounds like fanboyism to me.

And to be honest, my favorite animated film (CG or otherwise) of the past decade is Warner Bros. The Iron Giant.

I liked Shrek; haven't seen Antz yet. Haven't seen A Bug's Life either.
Sully's fur was quite good in Monster's Inc too; I wonder if the animators just gave an "are you INSANE???" stare at the directors (or whoever it would be) when they said they wanted a monster with long, realistic fur that reacts to air currents and gravity.
What about Ice Age? What's anyone think of that? I can say that they didn't do quite such a good job of realistic fur and snow effects - the fur wasn't individually animated like Sully's looked like, and when the characters made footprints...well, it just wasn't entirely realistic. Good, but not quite right.
