Who here STILL uses checks at check out lines?

I haven't written a check since I renewed my driver's license. I use my credit/debit cards wherever I go. My parents still use checks and it bugs the hell out of me...they REFUSE to use ATMs and don't even have a check card from their bank.

I write a check at stop and shop nearly everyday for my lunch. I usually have it prefilled out aside from the total price so often it takes less time than signing a reciept or waiting for them to count out change.

I am irresponsible with a debit/atm card so i dont let myself have one.

same with me. thats why i use checks for literally everything.

errr... you just write a number down, vs typing in your pin, and checks make you MORe responsible? doesnt make sense?

Why are you irresponsible with a check card, but not checks? I don't see how they are different...

The local bar doesn't take checks.

It's nice to have a checkbook handy to keep track of your account in real time. If I cared to carry more than just my driver's license and debit card in my pocket, I'd carry my checkbook to help me keep track of my money. However, since I hate carrying anything even if it's in my pocket, I'll just ... not.

And I love how every one always thinks cash is faster, because its definately not when you take into account the change making and juggling that has to be done by the cashier and customer.
It's not the writing them taking time, it's the "approval". It's that many stores need to have a manager come and sign off on it.. even if you have all your ID with you. That can make it a couple minutes easily in a store where a manager doesn't answer pages or is busy taking a dump or something.

Huh, I've never had that happen around here. I only write checks occasionally though.

Why write checks when you can do everything online? (With the exception of rent) You can put everything on auto-pay - unless you don't have the money.

i write a check for my rent and a few others. I average 20 checks a year. I am still using checks from 1998. Billpay, online paying, and plastic. I don't even like carrying cash unless I am at a bar.

Check writing is horrible. I was so pissed at a walmart when I was on vacation cause this lady was taking forever!!! I think I said something out loud, moved to another line, and then said something to the lady when she walked past me when i was done checking out. It was NOT 30 seconds. It was several minutes.

Proven fact, for a large festival up here called Summerfest, they went to accepting credit cards. They said a credit card transaction was a few seconds(they had the exact amount) faster than a cash transaction.

Check writing at all stores should be banned.
