I use one...for some weird reason when gaming I like the feel of the ball mice better than optical. The optical is too "flat" for me.

I have two ball mice I still use:

The first one is a serial mouse, which I use for my old-school 486 DX/2 system. Believe me, I tried using an optical with it: no go.

The second is an average two-button mouse... except it's also a phone!!! Seriously. It has the keypad in a little recessed section of the mouse, covered by a hinged lid. There's a plug for a headset at a little box attached to the cord, where the phone plugs in as well. If it wasn't for the fact that the cord is too short I'd use it for a lot more stuff.

On a related topic, there used to be micro-mice you could buy for fairly cheap with the most useful mouse balls ever. The reason: they were the exact same size as paintballs. Ouchies!

I have to chime in on this topic!

I normally use optical mice (mouses? mousies?) but I seem to have gotten a bad batch of Logitech MX500's, so in a move of desperation I plugged in something sitting around the house, and I'm still using it. looking on the bottom, it's a PS/2 Scroll Mouse Model BCM 85002.

I will soon get around to returning those bad mice and replacing them, however.

fork over the cash? A sweet Logitech opticall set you free @ $19.95
Well until May 31st, I was an extremely poor student. There wasn't $19.95 left for anything like that - especially when I had alternatives that work perfectly. That $19.95 is 4 full meals eating out with my wife (feeding both of us)! I'm a rossman wannabe.

Eat a lot of burgers and tacos eh?

No burgers for me (and rarely for my wife). No tacos either (unless we cook them ourselves). But things like a large $4 nachos can feed both of us (with some left over). Spend the other $1 for potato things. Or Chineese food often for $6 can feed us both just fine - especially when it comes with soup, rice, and eggrolls/crab ragoon for that price. Or $2 6" deep dish pizzas during happy hour. Coupons go a long way - as do the one day a week specials. Etc. Skipping the pop can save $4 at many restaurants now.

Sorry, LOLyourFace, this has gotten off the topic of ball mice.

You can get an optical for $5 if you shop around... I used my $5 optical as a 'commuting mouse' at school for CAD courses, since the mice there blew so hard that you couldn't do any work.
