Hey, just wondering if there are more people out there that dont like the look that aa/af provides?.. i find it blurs everything a tad bit and i prefer a nice crisp image... Also the performance hit you get from it is not worth the results imo.
What do I know though im just a benchmark junkie!

Once I enabled AA and AF for the very first time, I wouldn't want to go back.

same here

i used to play with out aa or af all the time because i played fast paced fps games online i needed the best frame rate i could get.....and i didnt think my hardware was up to the job

when i got my 6800GT i started playing with lashings of AA and AF and now im never going back

if i dont use AA then its for reasons such as HDR. and i will always use AF no matter what. im dreading the day my 6800GT wont be able to play with AA and AF

I Played Half-Life 2 at 8xS AA and 16x AF on my 6600GT, they were the best 10 seconds of my life, until my card started artifacting because of how high I had to overclock it to even make it playable at 1280x1024. Hopfully when my zalman vf700-CU arrives, then I will be able to run it again. For now, I play at 16x AF, no AA.

I used to play w/o AA or AF when I had a budget card, but since I got better cards, I always use AA and AF. The jaggies are somewhat tollerable without AA, but I can never play now without AF, it just looks fugly.

I have a 7800GT and I too prefer no AA/AF. *shrug* I like super high detail and frames though. I guess I'm so used to using my imagination to augment games from my Intellivision and Amiga days that it's just wasted GPU cycles. I also prefer the look of games like Virtua Fighter to Soul Caliber II.

I wouldn't care if a new game had Doom 1 graphics.....all I care about is the gameplay. Frankly, if the Doom 3 team had just used Doom 2 graphics and spent all those man-years working on the gameplay that game would have rocked.

Try just AF. AA blurs stuff a bit on the edges becuase that is how it gets rid of the alising, but AF is all about making things less blurry so I can't see what argument you would have with it.

Generally I crave both AA + AF.

Too me, the need for AA seems directely related to the monitor. When I had a 22" professional monitor and could run very high resolutions the need for AA was diminished (still liked AF though).

Now that I have a cheap 17" that only offers low rez's, I need AA to get rid of the jaggies.

Your right its just AA that I dont like it blurs everything to much for me and makes stuff look softer

I will always try to set the highest settings of aa/af. It looks significantly better and lessens the jaggies.

Its a pity games like FEAR will probably force people to play without aa/af unless they have high end cards.

The whole point of high end cards is so people can play the newest games with higher image quality options like AA and AF, so I don't see how anyone can complain about that.

If you have a midrange card, you could just turn down the resolution a bit and still use AA+AF. I played the FEAR demo on a x800, and it ran fine at 10x7 with AA+AF.

Honestly I can't see why many ppl brag about aa/af. But nonetheless, it sure makes game pretty :). I play most of my games @ 1280x1024 no aa.

Anisotropic Filtering

I have a 9600XT so I can't really turn either on in modern games but I definitely try AF before AA. (My 4 year old monitor/polaroid CP provides some free AA anyways ;))

but what does it actually do? aa gets rid of aliasing by putting in more pixels in between the jaggies :). what does af actually do to make the image "sharper"

my geforce2 can go up to 2x af but i never noticed a difference...

I used to say that, but then my mind changed. If anything gets blurred, then something is wrong. Your video card probably sucks. Unless you're using 8xAA on Nvidia cards which contains Super Sampling. Or an older version or Supers Sampling. Or 2xQ. Those have blur. Never seen blur on AF however.
