Who here owns a *T-mobile* Sidekick?

I got the Sidekick from T-mobile last week.. and I gotta say this is one the coolest things I've ever had. AIM, internet, e-mail, calendar, phone.. all in one. It's $200 after rebate unless you got on the Compusa deal, and service is $40 bucks a month from T-mobile.

The polyphonic ringtones sounded nice.. and was a big upgrade from my default Verizon ringtones. You can even surf on Anandtech for Hot Deals on the road.. and especially in class when you start to fall asleep.

It came with a free camera that plugs into the side of the Sidekick.. not great quality, but pretty nice being able to attach it to e-mails and sending it from anywhere.

I feel like a true computer science nerd now.

I have T-Mobile and got my Nokia 3390 free. And, since I don't use my phone for email, I don't need such an expensive phone. The 3390 does everything that phone does, with the exception of internet connection.

You just paid $200 for a slow-ass internet connetion, bud.

Aww you suck. I thought this was going to be about Suzuki Sidekicks. Of which I own one 🙂

Is this phone able to acccess any internet site? What does a site like anandtech.com look on the tiny screen - do you have a digital camera perhaps? I want to see what a normal non WML site looks like!

No. The only sites that any phone can see are sites with the .wml extension.

Don't crap on it until you tried it. If you have a need for a calendar, e-mail, and a phone.. it's nice to have this. Internet connection isn't that slow.

The 3390 would take a much longer time entering in messages, doesn't have calendar reminders, and its address book isn't as extensive.

For those who need to reply to e-mails right away and have hectic schedules(i.e. college students) it'll help a lot instead of carrying a Palm in one pocket, and a cell in the other.

Yes, it can access *most* sites.. Google, Espn, Anandtech, Hotmail, etc. It won't show Javascript or Flash though.

I'll post up a pic of the Sidekick with AT on the screen later tonight since I'm at work.

I have the 4 door, and there is more than enough room. I had 3 people back there on the way to a party at dekalb. and some of my friends are really tall. like 6'4".

It doesn't have callender reminders? Then kindly tell me what you call it when I look through my phone settings and I get "callender" and set my phone to ring and remind me at any time of day and time that I wish??

And, since being connected wastes away fairly quickly, why don't you just *call* someone instead of sit there and hit the keys to eventually scroll up letter-by-letter taking forever to email them? ...kinda dumb if ya ask me. 🙂

Do you know if you can change the operator logo on your phone? I was looking around at them but I have been getting mixed signals about whether you can actually change it...

What are you talking about? You mean the hugely ugly "T - Mobile" on it? If that's what you're talking about, I don't know. I haven't found the setting on the phone yet. But I haven't read the book yet, either.

Yeah, sorry 😱, that's what I meant. I found a few websites that have them but they either only work in the UK, or they want like $5 for 'em. I don't want to give them my money if t-mobile doesn't let you change it

Registering at the T-Mobile site, you can get 'screensaver' pics that show up when you're not using the phone for $.99. As for changing the T-Mobile logo that pops up when you turn the phone on, I don't know.

I think it's pretty nice. $200 initially and $40/month seems damn nice for unlimited access and 200 minutes of talk time + weekends. The only sucky part is in the fine print:

* After first year, unlimited becomes 15MB/month, $3.50/additional MB.

Does anybody know how one would get away from that? I'd love to get one of these. It does everything I use my iPaq for (minus MP3s) plus I can reply to client e-mails in class 🙂)) and make a call if absoluetly nessasary. I can also AIM on the go!

Okay.. not as an extensive calendar that would replace a PDA, right? If you don't use a PDA, then there's really no point in you crapping on the Sidekick since you wouldn't use its functions.

What wastes away fairly quick being always connected? The unlimited data transfer? If I do need to make a call, I call. If I need to e-mail professors, groups of people, etc.. you know, the main reason people use e-mail and not the phone for, then I use e-mail.

And scroll up letter by letter? Unless you're a really slow typer who doesn't know the keyboard layout, it's still waaay more quicker than pressing "2" 3 times to get a "c".

Yeah, that's the crappy part. But after a year, I'm assumming newer plans would come out or different carriers take on the Sidekick. It's still cheaper than paying about 200-300 for a Blackberry and getting aim/e-mail only..

I got a Sidekick when they came out, so I've had it for about a month now. I gotta say, it's so awesome. Basically a PDA and phone in one, unlimited data for internet access. Can't imagine not having one (or something similar) now. Very handy around the college campus.

it's $99 after rebate at amazon right now, so if anyone wants it now's a good time to jump on it, it was $200 yesterday

i dont own one but the device is made by Danger Research of Palo Alto.. www.danger.com

anyway they call it the HipTop.. its been a long time coming.. The T.Moblie version is teh first of the sorts. Verizon is coming out with their version too and I believe danger is releasing a version too (dont know with whom).

I want one but not right now maybe christmas.
