Best for what? If you're looking for one of the best areas to raise a family, then my town would rank very highly. If you're looking for one of the best towns for a 21 year old who had lived in a city all their life, then my town would suck.
Cost of housing is incredibly cheap. One place we almost purchased was a 4 bedroom farm house, with a barn, 114 acres, storage building, garage for tractors, pond, etc. - 90k. Our current place has 18 acres, barn, etc., and was less than half of that 90k. The school system is excellent. Very high graduation rates, excellent scores on state exams.
Now here's the part that will blow your mind - kids actually spend most of their time playing outdoors!
The volunteer fire department has chicken bbq's about once per month. In my life, I've never had better chicken bbq than there. And, the volunteer fire department is incredible at doing their job. I saw them put out a barn fire when the structure was fully engulfed. The entire structure was still standing. It was still a total loss, but most barns burn to the ground when they catch on fire. I witnessed them remove a 100 year old maple tree that had fallen across the road in 5 minutes, including sweeping up the road of all the sawdust generated by the chain saws. A large crew showed up (about 1 minute after the siren went off) and almost without a word being spoken, everyone knew what their particular job was - it was as if this was a competition they had practiced for a thousand times.
Sorry, no movie theaters. No play grounds either. Who needs a playground when you have 1000's of acres of state forest that surround a few small lakes? Excellent greenhouses, lots of fresh baked Amish goods, plenty of places to get fresh produce. Lumbermills if you want to get lumber to build something - a small fraction of the cost of big chain store lumber. Air quality is excellent. In fact, I think I'm going to hit "post quick reply" then go pick a few pounds of blueberries down the street.
Austin, because it's in Texas.

That sounds nice! It doesn't matter what I think is best I wanted hear what everyone else had to say so thank you. Sounds pretty rural where you are now what is the town population and are their jobs available ?

Yeah but I don't see ANY mention of a Walmart or Taco Bell?!?!??
We don't have a Walmart in my town. We don't have a Taco Bell either. In fact, we don't have a Walmart in this COUNTY. The only chain restaurant around is McD's, that's in the village about 6 miles from here. If you want chain restaurant food, you'll have to drive to the city in the next county over; ditto for Walmart - about 25 minutes. Else, you can drive to the largest village in this county, about 35 minutes away for a couple small but common chain restaurants - I think they have a Burger King, McD's, and Pizza Hut. They might even have a Friendly's or something.
Those are more reasons why this town is *better.*
