Who here lives in Los Angeles?

Orsorum

Just put in for a transfer to LA or SF, not sure which has openings. Curious what y'all pay for rent and how the cost of living compares to other areas (think Seattle, Portland, etc.).

Depends where you live in LA.

Yup.

You could literally try to live in Compton and get cheap rent.....or you could be paying upwards 1.6K for a studio

I'm asking what people pay for rent, not the entire range. I have family in LA, I'm generally aware of the different neighborhoods.

Everyone knows the Cost of Living is more in LA. Ask for specific areas you want to live in not just if you live in LA how much do you pay. LA is a huge area.

How about anywhere within 40 minutes of Grand Avenue?

40 minutes? you could be in OC in way under 40 minutes from there. 40 minutes could have you living in Beverly Hills, or Watts.

Well not with traffic. No traffic then yes.

Westwood (Veteran and Weyburn), UCLA graduate housing, $1032/month, all utilities and Internet included. Own bedroom and bath in a 2 bed 2 bath apartment with a living room and kitchen.

Although, as others have mentioned, prices vary a lot depending on the neighborhood.

EDIT: Since others mentioned parking (and it certainly is relevant to mention in LA), I pay about $300/quarter, so roughly $100/mo for parking (on top of rent).

Would you live with College Students?

No, but he was the first to actually just answer my question.

How were we supposed to know you wanted to live near UCLA? 😛

there are so fine new apartment complexes in Little Tokyo area, last time I checked they are 1200 for a studio. Little Tokyo is like 10-15 minutes from major parts of downtown district. If not, Koreatown can be had for cheaper, but some parts can be quite ghetto (south side). Parking sucks ass in K-town though.

$0. Of course, I do have to wash the dishes, wash the cars, do some yardwork, and do anything regarding technological maintenance in the house 😛.

Downtown Los Angeles - 7th/Spring. $1200/mo with parking space (Monthly spaces at a structure cost about $150/mo). Walking to work saves a ton of cash.

I know by UCLA, in Westwood, its like 2k for a 1 bedroom studio.

I think in westwood a studio is more like 1500-1800...I think a one bed runs around 2000-2100 or so. But only a few blocks away, rents are more reasonable...I think south of wilshire is decent. I lived in grad student housing for UCLA and paid $965 for a 690 sq ft 1 bd 1 ba with a garage, which was a steal....but it was right off the 405/10 interchange, about 4 miles from school.
