I definitly am. I have only owned 1 system that isn't a Nintendo product and that was a Sega Game Gear. I thought it was horrible.

Nintendo fscked up big time with the N64 (although Zelda 64 was awesome), but I believe they will totally redeem themselves this time around.

It's now called the StarCube and as a Nintendo loyalist, I will devote every cent of money I can to that system! Nintendo is God!

P.S. Here's a website with info about the name change and patents belonging to Nintendo involving the next gen systems. http://www.tendobox.com/enter.htm

Gotta wait & see. The good thing is that it will be disk based so no more expensive cartridges and no need for 'expansion' packs. By the time the Dolphin comes out I'll have a PS2 (because when Dolphin comes out the price of a PS2 will definately drop). For now I'll stick to my trusty computer & PS1.

Cheers,

I hope there will be videos to download after the showing at space world 2000, where there is to be playable demos of the dolphin system.

I cant wait for a Zelda game on this system.

Benchmarks put the Dolphin's 3D performance waaaay above PS2's. Plus, Nintendo hasn't let me down so far. I'm planning to pick up a StarCube and a GameBoy Advance early next year. :)

But the Dolphin (Star Cube ... or whatever it's gonna be by the time it's realeased, maybe they'll call it the "Really Really Cool Console System") isn't gonna support DVD movies, only DVD game format. That's gonna be a draw back. I'll wait and see what's the best value for my money as far as games go.

Yikes!!! I didn't know that they would not support DVD movies. That is a big mistake.

Also any truth to the rumors that they might make a cartridge slot so that you can play the N64 games? Just a rumor that I've heard but can't confirm.

Cheers,

whats with these gay names?!
Playstation
StarCube
Dreamcast

argh what happened to cool stuff like Genesis, Nintendo, Jaguar, or TurboGrafx(rofl).

well i hear Nintendo is sellin the rights to Pokemon soon, IMO thats a great idea. the N64 sucked so much, and everybody just kind of considered it a kiddie toy(because it was). so now they are gettin rid of that image...good idea. now if they can just pick a better name it'd be great. I'm still not going to buy one(sega or die :D) but i think its nice that they are trying to lose their kiddie image.

Not exactly. First off, there is not the added costs and plus there are probably better stand alone DVD players out there. And also, Nintendo might launch a separate console with integrated DVD. Just something that might happen.

And StarCube?! ... ... ... ... That ...... I think they should have stuck with Dolphin.

Do you guys actually use N64 instead of Playstation?
  • Boy, your opinion sure carries a lot of weight... HAH!

    :D
Perhaps Nintendo will come through in the end (we hope so, competition is key in the advancement of the console industry and we love Mario and Zelda), but as it stands right now, you can't blame us for not believing much of what they say. - Dan Egger

I thought n64 was great for the simple reason that at the time I had a POS computer. :p Once I got my new machine on Nov. I basically stopped playing it. Since then I have played MY nintendo64 (my friends a lot more...sh!tty computer...) about 15 hours. :p It has fun games...mario kart is nice because it is a game my sister knows how to play (she is in college and is rarely home so it is nice to chill to a lil Mario Kart :)). Plus I thought it was fun...though the only bad game I bought was Kobe Bryant Courtside...i couldn't see the players through a large anti aliased mass...oh, you mean THOSE were the players?! ;) hehe

It served me well, and playstation was outta da' question because...because...i dunno why. :p

Waiting for X-Box, but I think Dolphin will be a good system. IMHP, this leaves virtually no room for PS2, I see it going down like 3DO and SEGA.

there's absolutely no way its going down like a 3DO. and Sega isn't down :( Dreamcast is doing fine. they'll always have the Japanese Market to fall back on, Saturn did fine there.

No comments on the name "Dreamcast"? :)

I'm waiting for PS2 first, Gran Turismo2000 is reason enough for me to get it :) Also, Metal Gear Sold 2 looks friggin amazing...

Stefan, hopefully you didn't base your opinion's on non-nintendo systems just by owning the Game Gear. It was a handheld unit made to compete with another handheld. If it wouln't have been for the Game Gear and a few other color handhelds the Game Boy would probably still be in mono.

As for the Dolphin/Starcube, let remember the history of Nintendo. Things to look for when it debuts:
  • It will be way later than their currently projected dates
  • Only contain a fraction of the storage of other systems on the market
  • Undersupported by third party software
  • Low supply of the games that will be available at launch
  • There will be promised add-ons that will increase and add to the storage/functionality of the unit that should appear within a few months to a year.
  • These add-ons will not appear for several years or not at all.
  • Mario's sorry ass will live again, they really should have killed his series off with the Super Nintendo
  • A year after the launch of their new system there will only be 1/4 of the games available for it as opposed to new PS2 games...
  • ...and of those 1/4 only 1/3 to 1/2 of those will be worth playing
  • The Nintendo games will be priced 50-60% higher than the other systems on the market

I'll stop there even though I could go on. It just amazes me that this loyal Nintendo fan base are just gluttons for punishment. Nintendo constantly delivers failed promises, and screws the customers over and over in new and exciting ways. These people just fork out their hard-earned money and swear by Nintendo. I guess P.T. Barnum was right, there is a sucker born every minute, and Nintendo knows how to make them jump through hoops.

I said I've owned only 1 system that isn't a Nintendo product. I've played just about everything. NES, SNES, N64, Sega Master System, Genesis, Saturn, PlayStation, Dreamcast, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Game Gear, Atari Lynx (I think thats what its called)... I even saw a Playstation 2 at a video game store.

I said the Game Gear was horrible in respect to the Gameboy. (Which I also owned)

It will be way later than their currently projected dates

The first release date was scheduled for late 2000. They since changed it to early-mid 2001.

Only contain a fraction of the storage of other systems on the market

If you mean capacity of the disc, they are using a DVD disc that holds 4.7GB of info. Which is what the PS2 uses - except Nintendo will use a proprietary disc to help stop software piracy.

Undersupported by third party software

Right now all they are doing is getting developers for the system. The hardware is finished.

Low supply of the games that will be available at launch

There are supposed to be at least 20-30 games at launch.

Mario's sorry ass will live again, they really should have killed his series off with the Super Nintendo

Mario is basically Nintendo's icon. Nintinto would not kill him or his image. Why would they? The Mario games are some of the biggest sellers.

A year after the launch of their new system there will only be 1/4 of the games available for it as opposed to new PS2 games...

In case you didn't know, The Dolphin (or Star Cube) is supposed to be extremly easy to program for. Unlike the PlayStation 2 which is considerably harder to program for.

...and of those 1/4 only 1/3 to 1/2 of those will be worth playing

I doubt that. Nintendo wouldn't want to pull a PlayStation and put out 70 games a week that had been worked on for a day. In case you didn't realize like 1 out of every 10 games Nintendo releases is a Million copy seller.

The Nintendo games will be priced 50-60% higher than the other systems on the market

Nintendo will no longer be using the cartridge, this means their games will cost as much or less as PlayStation 2 or Dreamcast games.

Edited for spelling

Stefan I never said that all of those would apply to the new system. I was pointing out Nintendo's past and using to illustrate the fact that Nintendo has a history of duping their customer base and they continue to support them dispite this. You seem to be a prime example of this Nintendo Rulez philosophy.

<< Nintendo wouldn't want to pull a PlayStation and put out 70 games a week that had been worked on for a day. >>

If you want to take everything I say literal you need to examine your own statements first. Like the above example for instance, I believe I'm correct in saying there are no PS or any console video game for that matter that was developed in a day.

My main point is don't believe everything Nintendo tells you. They have had a history of lying before on several occasions. What makes you so sure this time they're telling the truth?

Ok, I don't know why everyone is dogging Nintendo. Super Nintendo was by far better than genesis, that was a simple fact. N64 was actually a very good system. I own alot more N64 games than I do playstation games, just because the multiplayer is more fun on N64. As for Playstation 2 vs. Dreamcast vs. StarCube, I think the best of the 3 for overall system will be PS2 (but only because of the DVD movie support). It looks like the StarCube is gonna have better graphics and overall just a better system than the PS2. I've heard that the DVD movie support for the PS2 is jumpy and low resolution and basically not worth it. And as for the Dreamcast, everything Sega has always sucked and always will. Dreamcast has like 1 or 2 fun original games.
The main choicce for an intelligent person (yes those of you who got the dreamcast are STUPID) will be either the PS2 or the StarCube. And the decision will come down to which games. Both PS2 and StarCube have a nice choice of original games.
As for the crappy names for systems, Dreamcast and StarCube are both kinda lame. But Playstation is actually kinda decent.
Also what will be cool is the gamboy advance. For those of you who know nothing about it, it's a 32 bit hand held system. It's a PlayStaion in the palm of your hand
Well that's enough of my ranting.
