Who here has the COOLEST job?

Zeze

Lifer
Given a massive community, someone has to have an unusual or cool job. Who?

I'm a typical corporate whore...

Anyone work in entertainment/radio/'dirty jobs?' Who has the coolest working hours? (my old job gave every friday as work from home. Awesome).

Let's get the hookers and blow jokes out of the way.

I get to fire machine guns, rifles, pistols, rockets, throw grenades. I also get to mess around with very expensive computer equipment.

I kinda like my job.

On friday I tried to get microstation to print a raster background. Couldn't do it. Fucking Microstation sucks ass.

/coolest job ever

I design and test parts for turbine engines. I spent yesterday looking over the parts that just came out of a test for a 3,000 hp helicopter engine.

Not anymore, but I used to have what I considered to be a "Cool Job."

THIS was my morning taxi to work:

(that's San Francisco in the background)

I got paid over $35/hr plus excellent benefits to sit on my ass and watch other people work:

But of course, with those perks, my office wasn't quite as fancy as what some of youse have...

But unlike many of you, I got to see the end results of what I did.

I used to land survey. Not glamorous, but I saw a lot of cool stuff. From walking steel on construction projects, to being so far out in the sticks they had to pipe sunlight in.

I've dug through countless 100 year old glass dumps, been in log house that haven't been inhabited in 100 years, been within touching distance of an owl, and within 50' of a bald eagle. I've hand fed a blue jay doughnut, and eaten wild grapes growing the back country. I've seen all kinds of nature, as well as urban blight. The pay sucked, and the responsibility was huge, but I've experienced a lot of things many will never see :^)

I have some friends back in your part of the country. He used to be a surveyor as well. Unfortunately, the economy took his job...

I figure out which parts of the human genome are currently evolving in response to the selective pressures of modern civilization. I also figure out which parts of the genome came from Neanderthals and Homo erectus. On occasion I hang out with monkeys & apes. I also get to occasionally visit places like the high veldt of South Africa and the Badlands of Wyoming so I can collect and then analyze fossils.

Then I teach what I've learned to coeds. And drink beer at the union, which is a 5 minute lakeshore walk from my lab.

Probably not the coolest job, but it could be worse.

I teach heavy equipment operation. Loaders/backhoes/graders,truck/trailer/etc.
I also teach in a driving simulator and and I am waiting for my training from AAA to become a defensive driver's trainer.

The Simulator looks similar to this but ours has controls for a front and wing plows. It also has a stick shift for 5+2/8/10/13/15 speed transmissions.

I'm a typical corporate whore but my job is 95% work from home and 5% travel, and I really love that. I'm making use of it to split my life between Seattle area and wine country Northern California. When I asked my boss if she wanted to know when I went to work from CA she asked, "why?" 😀

I'm enlisted in the Air Force as a programmer. Only thing vaguely cool is 90% of the people above me have no idea what I actually do and the other 10% just think I do something I don't... Oh and ever once in a while I get to shoot an M9 and M16

You install home alarms? :sneaky:

Haha... Actually alarms are the one thing we DON'T do.

Lighting control systems
Distributed Audio
Home Theater
Camera systems
Motorized Blinds
Smart Glass
All kinds of motorized/automated tricks (Tiki torches, locks, doors, etc)

Don't you have alarms tied in with some of those things?

You didn't happen to do Bill Gates' house in Washington, did you? If so, I bet I know the guy who hired you. 🙂
