Who here has taken acetaminophen before?

SunnyD

Belgian Waffler
Does it work? It doesn't, nor ever has been able to even touch a mild headache for me. Wonder why. Aspirin and Ibuprofen work great though...

Do you take anything that contains Acetaminophen, like sinus pressure medicine, body aches, etc.? Does it work for any of that?

How much did you snort?

Good god... you're supposed to SNORT it? Mebbe that's why it never worked. 😕

No, no and no. I tend to avoid it (and have for the past 20 years, it was never in my house growing up either) because it honestly never worked for me.

acetaminophen isn't that good for a headache - great for fever and inflammation though. Aspirin with some caffeine is best for a headache.

I'm pretty sure acetaminophen does nothing for inflammation.

Tylenol by itself is really pretty muh pointless for me, but you can take it with Asprin or Ibuprofen or Naproxen... so I'll typically take Aleve and then Tylenol (or generic) on top of that for a headache/body ache.

Um, I don't think acetaminophen has any anti-inflammatory proprieties. Might you be thinking of ibuprofen?

My bad, for some reason I thought it did.

And while were on the topic of ibuprofen it's most effective if you take 1200 mg at a time. The only reason it was allowed to go to over the counter was because the dosage got taken down real low.

600 works great for me. 1200 will eat my stomach alive very quickly. 🙁

acetaminophen (also known as Paracetamol) has no anti inflamatory qualities, which is why it is the primary pain reliever most commonly prescribed when done in combination with other NSAIDs.

ibuprofein (also known as iso-butyl-propanoic-phenolic acid) is itself a NSAID, and is usually not combined with other NSAIDs.

I usually go with 800mg if I'm going to take it at all.
Acetaminophen seems to work for me as a fever reducer, but that's it.
Well, those Tylenol 3s did a pretty good number on me, but Mr. Tylenol had a friend 😛

Has always worked fine for me. But since many of my headaches are caused by alcohol, I rarely take it since it is hard on your liver.

Studies show that acetaminophen works for pain relief in most men but it rarely works in women. However, its effective dose is quite close to its lethal dose. Thus, I think the typical dose on the bottle is less than the effective dose. You might need a bit more acetaminophen for it to work for you; however, DON'T take more since it'll possibly kill you. Instead, I suggest taking one of the many alternatives. Aspirin is just about the perfect drug if you are in the majority that doesn't have ulcer problems.

I have to take about 6 regular aspirin to have them do anything these days. At least ibuprofen gives me a buzz...

I take Tylenol for fevers and it works ok if I have a headache but there's always ibuprofen which does a better job and it won't eat my liver (who knows what else it is doing to my body though). However I don't really take that much ibuprofen at a time, generally stick with 400mg for most of my ailments and have taken up to 800mg if I need it. Aspirin also works decently and I think it's a lot cheaper.
