Less than 20% drive cars? I don't think so.
The only information I could find in a quick search indicates that 70% of the world's population drives.
YMMV. (LOL)

Hmmm, quoting not working right.
I don't like being without transportation. You can pry my keys from my cold, dead hands.

What % of the world is even over 16?
I know a number of folks here in the Boston area that have sold their cars and now use Zipcar.
Those not familiar with it, Zipcar is a service that allows you to rent cars by the hour(includes gas, insurance). You can reserve cars online with their locations(usually a car can be found every several blocks). With a Zipcard, a wave of the card unlocks the car.

What percentage of the world doesn't have a 16 year+ driving law? Besides that, I drove long before I was 16, that's for sure.
Okay, but you definitely didn't own one at that age either.
Nobody is trying to take your car away Nancy.
I was commuting 10 miles by bike 2-3 times a week when I worked closer to home. Most I did was 4 days straight once. That was tough and I sure was tired by the end of the week. It is pretty hilly here so my commute wasn't just a flat 10 mile ride one way.
It's a lifestyle change for sure.
