Who here absolutely love their car?

I really like my '08 Altima Coupe. It's the first new car I've had and I'm pleased. It's over a year old now with about 16,000 miles on it. Had a minor exhaust heat shield recall to fix the rattling... there was also an airbag recall, but my car was not effected. Other than that it's been oil changes and tire rotations.

There's one thing that concerns me about it though... there is A LOT of valve train noise when it's cold. Makes me wonder if its ~200 mile highway cruise from Chicago to the Detroit area at the beginning of its life may have done some valve train damage.

Why would a 200 mile trip damage a new motor?, did you run it at extreme speed??.

Viper GTS

doesn't have just 240hp for a v8?

I heard they're slow, burn oil, & doesn't get very good gas mileage due to rotary's design.

Next I had a 93 sentra, 00 maxima, 04 mpv, 97 maxima and the last four have all been great, no major problems with any of them. 00 Maxima bought at 37k miles and now at 120 and has been nearly flawless. Very very happy with it!

I hear nothing but positives about the Nissan Maximas (well anything below the 2004 model year anyway). Everyone who have it loved it until Nissan messed it up in 2004+

Viper GTS

Not a Viper GTS?

First car 2000 Mazda MPV (40k miles)- No pickup(160hp 2.5L Duratec V6), meh interior, rattles on the highway thanks to vin plate being rivited in and not glued on. Wouldn't buy again.

Second car 2002 Toyota Camry 0k miles - Great car, soft touch plastics everywhere, comfortable ride, excellent day to day car, great price, engineering and he little touches (storage, ergonomics, general utility, etc) are great. Would buy again. In fact I still have it after all these years. IMO it's beautiful and looks much better than the 2007+ models.

Third car 1997 Lexus SC400 (90k miles)- Beautiful car, rock solid, bulletproof, awesome sound system. Wish I had the 98-2000 with he 290hp V8 and 5sp auto instead of the 1997 with the new style but only 260hp V8 and 4 speed auto but would buy again. Sold it to buy the MR2.

Fourth car 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder (50k miles)- Spent 3 months in the shop for a turbo and various other performance upgrades. Incredible sleeper with 16" SSR Comp wheels and stock body. Ended up at about 235RWHP and boy did it go since it weighed about 2200lbs. Trapped the 1/4 mile 12.9 @ 107mph. Sold it because I got a few too many speeding tickets and insurance would have been $3k a year. Women love this car since it's "cute." If I could have it back, I would. Most fun I ever had, nothing like a lightweight, turbo, 5 speed, MR (who needs Porsche when you have a faster, better handling car?) to get you excited to drive to work in the morning.

Everyone should drive a mid engined convertible at least once in their life.

Overall I've spent way too much money on cars and bikes over the years but that's my first love and passion so I can't say I'd do it any differently.

I agree with you about the 07+ camry being shit. I tested out the 2005 Camry and was very impressed. I should just trade in my accord and get the 06 Camry for a reliable daily driver.

I just hate buying a car to later find out it rattles...

It's a shame that you sold the Lexus SC400, I heard they got the legendary v8 engine that would last 400-500k miles without any problems.

Slow, yes. Poor MPG, yes. They burn oil minimally, I always checked my oil at each fill up, but barely used any between changes.

I loved my 04 RX-8 until the trans took a shit. 🙁

My STi is now 10x the the RX-8 was, has easily 2x the power, goes in anything and gets better MPGs to boot.

I certainly love the hell out of my STi, though honestly if I had it to do over, I probably would have been a bit more mild on my mod path.

My first car was a Chevy Citation - POS but a great college car. It was mostly reliable, got 30+MPG, and could hold a ton of stuff for a college student (and the rear seat folded flat so two could lay down and sleep on the trip).

Then I had a '94 Cherokee - would not buy. Unreliable, underpowered (4 cyl), and just not the right car for me.

'91 Eclipse GS Turbo - god, I loved that car. It "fit" me so well from the seats to the ergonomics, etc. It's not the right car for me now with 3 kids but great at the time.

'04 Mazda 6 - pretty fun car for its size but I didn't like the interior. Would not buy.

'00 Maxima - my current DD. It's been highly reliable, gets good mileage (I average ~26MPG, never under 25), and good space. Still looks pretty good except for a few scratches I inherited. 192K+ miles...would buy again but only if I knew for sure it would be as reliable as this one has been.

2007 Z4 M is by far the most fun car I have ever had. A distant second would be either my 1999 Jeep Cherokee or 1999 Jeep Wrangler. Third would be 2005 MINI Cooper S.

My first car was a 1988 Nissan Stanza. It was first owned then my mom, then she passed it on to my sister, who then passed it on to me. It was a slow 80HP clunker, but it was always reliable, and had a working AC/defrost and cheapie stereo that i installed myself with money i made from working at target. I was an idiot when i was 17, so i never checked the oil, and one day i had a blown gasket. Probably would never buy again, but i get sentimental when i see one on the street.

1992 Plymouth Voyager - I hated this POS. It was technically never mine, but it was in the family and i had to drive it alot. One day i was driving it and the steering wheel fell off. I always felt like this thing was gonna flip over when i made a turn. My dad had to replace the windshield wiper motor once a year. Would never get this thing ever

1996 Camry - My mom handed this down to me when i was a soph. in college so i could commute to my internship jobs. Great solid car that handled really well after i put some nice tires on it. no rattles, or any problems at all. I still think it is nicer than alot of new cars out right now (cough cobalt cough) . Would def buy again today as a secondary commuter car if the need ever arises.

2007 accord coupe - i love this car and i already put 30k miles on it after a year of driving. Now that i have money, i want to replace the factory deck, but the factory deck has built in AC controls, so i can't do it without the center console looking like trash 🙁 It's been reliable, and provides me great fuel econ and creature comforts on my long commute. Would def. buy again, but I probably woulda gotten the 2008 TL if i waited a year

i need to get a nice sports car next 🙂

first car - mom's 1984 olds delta 88 royal brougham HATED

burgundy (actually matte purplish brown + rust), loaded with a 307 quadra-bog and every option oldsmobile had to sell. it all broke. every single piece. the best was chronic stalling followed by chronic dieseling. i had it for just over a year. end result - given away after the chapman alarm shorted, burning up the engine bay.

second car - 1989 jetta HATED

light blue, 104 hp when new + 3 speed auto, terrible aftermarket moonroof, plenty of issues under the hood. when i pulled the seats out for cleaning, i found lots of broken glass. the left u-joint snapped on a steep hill. i had it for 3 years. end result - given away after a fire in the engine bay.

third car - 1995 acura integra special edition (purchased with 75k miles, sold with 150k miles) LOVED

white with charcoal interior, non-vtec 140 hp + 4 speed auto, afaik all available options (leather, power everything, etc). mechanically very good, but things were starting to get expensive. headlight housings were letting in water, the body was starting to rot, plus a seam in the rear of the car had opened up, letting water into the trunk. i had the car for 6 years. end result - given to my buddy, who promptly ran a stop sign and destroyed the front half of the car (police told him the car absolutely saved his life).

fourth car - 2006 infiniti g35 6mt coupe (purchased new) LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT

light blue with tan interior, 300 hp + 6 speed manual, sunroof. the car has been mechanically very solid. all the extras on other cars came standard on this, making the extras on this car very silly. fuel economy is disappointing at 20ish mpg. i really should get snow tires - in the winter, the car can do a double salchow and a triple lutz. i've picked up a rattle somewhere in the interior that's driving me nuts. the factory radio makes upgrades pretty tricky.

'81 F250 - loved that truck and all it's faults (oh, and it had many).

'68 Cutlass - I loved this car so much I still shed a tear for it. 🙁

'88 Accord - I like the car, but I can't say I love it. I'm sad that it's not running and I'll be sad if I sell it, but it really doesn't have a place in my heart like my first two cars. It's been a great car right up till I blew the head gasket.

'01 F150 - absolutely love this truck, except maybe the looming threat of a spark plug change causing me to buy new heads. In any case if that does happen, I'll have a reason to buy these.

I've seen some modified center consoles for the Accord that look pretty great.. I stuck with an iPod adapter for mine though. Easily the best $150 I spent on my Accord.

I do love my Accord coupe.. but I want a sports car next. 🙂

Good to hear about the G35 and rattling, I guess Nissan have the same problem as Honda (using cheapass plastic for interior).

I hear with the 370z, they've upgraded their interior plastic so that it won't rattle anymore.

First car.....(2002-2003)
1998 Pontiac Grand Prix- Hated solely for the fact that it wasn't mine (was my parents). Died at 198k miles when an oil pump died.
150HP
Paid nothing

Second car... (2004-2006)
1974 Dodge D100 "Warlock". This truck was absurdly fun. Stepside, shortbox, 360 V8 and a 4 on the floor. I loved this truck. I also learned to work on cars (if there was a fix that was needed on a car, this truck needed it).
220HP
$400

Third car...(Summer of 2006)
1977 Caprice Classic. This car was another absolutely fun car. Armed with the 350 V8 it could scoot and go. Unfortunately, gas prices took a turn upwards of 2.50 a gallon and I felt the need to sell.
200HP
$200

Fourth car...(Fall 2006-Spring 2007)
1987 Ford F150, extended cab w/ the 6 cylinder and 4 speed. Didn't love or hate. It was a truck.
145HP
$500

Fifth car...(Spring 2007- Summer 2008)
1987 Volkswagen Cabriolet. Absolutely loved, favorite car so far. Had everything electrical break and had a 10 switch switchboard to operate a custom wired harness. Actually looking at one now...
75HP
$400

Sixth car...(Spring 2008-current)
1986 Ford Thunderbird Turbocoupe. Another fun car. Has enough pep to keep me going. I like it, but not a love. She gets me around.
210HP
$750

Oh yea, I forgot I had an 88 accord also. That car was a tank & so reliable that you just couldn't stop it from running.

It was totaled, fixed up, had 200k+ miles & start up every time. lol. I love it.

Too many to list, but a few :

'77 El Camino with a stroker 383 + the works. Insanely fun, but utterly illegal for the street (no reverse, no tags, no passenger seat, etc, etc). Loved it.

'86 Ranger V6 5Spd. Loved it, solid solid solid.

'89 Mustang LX w/5.0 conversion + a few mods. Great motor, unfortunately the rest of the car drove just like an old Fairmont I used to have. Atrocious handling/noise/interior.

'94 3000GT VR-4. Loved it a lot of the time, hated it the other (when it was eating part$/labor). Lots of fun, but maintenance was the 2nd worst I've ever seen.

'88 Prelude Si. Loved it. Just a very solid vehicle in every respect. Sold it to an acquaintance in the '90s, who drove it for years before handing it down to their high-schooler. Still running on original motor, 2nd tranny, at ~370k miles. Has had either Mobil 1 or Amsoil since ~40k miles.

'96 Integra GSR. Loved the B18C, but had a 'Civic' generic feel to it. I'm meh on this one, but it never let me down.

'99 Neon. Worst car in the world. Severe problems from below the 10k mark, shitty dealer service, EOL'ed with under 70k on the clock with meticulous maintenance habits.

'03 M5 6Spd. Loved the hell out of this, but only had it a short while before the now ex-wife totaled it. (not her fault).

'08 Focus Coupe S 5Spd, no options. A good buy, and ridiculously good fuel economy, while still dishing out respectable handling and comfort/room.

'99 Prelude SH. Loved it. After the 'bleh' 4G Preludes, it was a return to form. A bit overpriced for a (H) badge, but easily a better car than the 1.8L Integras.

I'm leaving a bunch out, but eh well.

I got mine from Crutchfield.. it was the USA Spec one. I can control the iPod via headunit and steering wheel controls. CDs 1-5 are also the first 5 playlists. I just need to update to the new cable so I can charge my iPhone 3G with it as I currently have an older Nano dedicated just for the car.

accord audio setup see the first and second posts. thats pretty much the only option for aftermarket headunit install.

and kroze, see this thread for ipod adapter info
I personally dont use an ipod, but there seems to be a bunch of different ones and i think the ones mentioned in this thread are the way to go

1997 Toyota 4runner; new: First car out of college and loved it. Never had any problem with it. You could sleep in it if you folded back seat down. Best feature of the car? You could roll down the back window. I gave it to my sister in early 2000 cause she needed a car. She gave it to her brother-in-law in 2003 and he's still driving it to this day problem free. I think it has about 250k miles on it now. I told him to give it back to me whenever he decides to get rid of it. I want to get it back for sentimental reasons.

2000 Porsche Boxster; new: I wasn't planning on getting this car. My cousin wanted to buy a Boxster so I tagged along to the dealership. There I saw Speed Yellow Boxster in the showroom with black interior and yellow stitching on the leather and yellow seatbelt and carbon fiber pieces throughout. I was like wow. I knew I had to buy it. Unfortunately, that car was already sold so I ended up ordering the exact same car except in tip. My cousin ordered the exact same car in manual. It was my first sports car and first convertible. Loved the car but I never really drove it much. Had around 6k miles in two years so I sold it. I wouldn't mind getting another one but only want the manual S version.

2000 Dodge B2500 cargo van; new: Needed a work van and this was the cheapest out the Big 3 so I bought it. It's my daily driver and a workhorse. I beat on it and abuse it and sometimes leaving it running for hours at a job site and never had any major problem. It drinks gas but it can haul tons of cargo and equipment and has never failed me yet. This vehicle has paid for itself many times over. Would buy again except Dodge is now using Mercedes van. I don't want anything to do with Mercedes. Next work van will be Ford or Chevy.

2002 Toyota Tundra; new: Bought it because I wanted a pickup truck and it was cheaper than Ford or Chevy and I never had any problem with Toyota products. No problem with the truck. I use it as a backup work vehicle and around the house projects. It sits mostly unused. Would buy again if the price was right but prefer Ford or Chevy truck for the same price. But with the cargo and minivan, truck is sort of redundant.

2003 Toyota Sienna; new: Bought it because we had our first child. Great minivan. This is our family and vacation car. Boring to drive like a Camry but never had any problem with it. Would definitely buy again.

2001 Honda S2000; used: I wanted another fun convertible so I picked this up. It was my first manual car so it took little getting used to but I saw the appeal of a stick. Fun grown up go-kart. It's a car that makes you smile everytime you get in it and drive. The fun only lasted about 2 months. My visiting brother-in-law totaled the car. Will likely buy another in the future.

2007 Chevy Corvette; new: I was not a Corvette fan. Never cared for the car. But one of my friend got the C6 Z06 and I was hooked. I thought about getting C5 Z06 to save some money and tested it but I really liked the look of the C6. I was going to wait for the 2008 LS3 but GM did the 0% for the 3 years so I had to take advantage. I'm now a Corvette fan. I see the appeal of the car and why it has so loyal following. Car is a beast and great GT car. Very comfortable with huge space for luggage and anything else you want to carry. The car does have small negative like the huge turning radius while parking and ugly cobalt steering wheel but that's minor stuff. I love the targa top, the raw power, and handling of this car. I also think it's one of the most beautiful production car out right now. I had this car 2 years now and sadly only put 3k miles on it. 🙁 It's hard to find time to enjoy the car with work, wife and daughter, and multiple cars and motorcycle. I think I calculated the cost to something like $7.50 a mile. I thought about upgrading to the Z06 or M5 but that car will probably rot in my garage as well. I only have a year left on the payment and trade-in values are shot given the crummy economy so I decided to keep it. Economy will probably get lot worse next year, and I need to save my cash for investments and steal deals.
