Who hates tattoo here? Especially on your partner?

If I never told anyone that I ride a motorcycle you'd never know it. Not sure why someone brought up motorcycles in a tattoo discussion in the first place. I'm sure a lot of motorcyclists have tattoos but I'm not one of them.

Although, that desmodromic valvetrain would make a pretty cool tattoo. 😉

Pretty sure Zargon was alluding to the fact that just because you ride a bike you're judged, perhaps unfairly and by people who don't know why you ride or why you ride the specific bike you do.

If I met you for the first time and you weren't on a bike I wouldn't assume that you rode a bike unless you brought it up in conversation. If you didn't bring it up then I would judge you based on our conversation, your mannerisms, and your attitude. If I determined that you were a douche, finding out afterwards that you rode a Ducati wouldn't change my mind.

If I met Zargo for the first time and I didn't see any visible tattoos I wouldn't assume that he had any unless he brought it up in conversation. I'd judge him the same way I judged you. If I determined he was a nice/cool guy and I then found out that he had tattoos it wouldn't changed my view of him (unless they were racist or hate related).

Now, if I met Guy C for the first time and I saw full sleeves, tattoos up his neck, etc. it would definitely play a part in the way I judged him until I knew him better. It would not however be something that caused me to instantly discredit him.

Make any sense?

pretty much spot on rogue

Nothing says the '80's like "A View to a Kill".

The clothes, the cars, the hair...

I agree. I love the campiness of Roger Moore as bond, no matter what anyone says, he was a ladydestroyer in the 80's

True, however you do have to acknowledge that people who see you have tattoos WILL see you in a different light. YOU are not different, but that does not mean that OTHER people won't see you as being different. [/quote[

In no way have I ever said having one doesnt get you judged 🙂

I am merely saying it generally SHOULDNT have such negative connotations. Prejudging is something everyone does, and I disagree with motionmans assertion that seems to imply a lot of commonalilty between people with tatoo's, and that whatever this part of 'our personality' that he wont name, is bad.

and as I suggested towards Jules, thats like saying all bikers are alike, and we are all hells angels or more popular now, sons of anarchy 😛

in fact the thing that tells me its OK to get a tatoo could be attached to a different trait of my personality than the guy next to me who also got one. Not at tatoos are the same, not all peoples reasons or drive are either.

I suppose I should remember that I am rather open minded about lots of things

Ugh - So this. Especially the ones coming through the "mustache area" above the top lip.

Ugh again.

that's called a "monroe". it mimics her famous mole.

i don't like them either. the only thing i think looks remotely cute on the face is a side of nose piercing with a tiny diamond stud in it. a girl at work has this and it's pretty on her.

I'm not a fan of tattoos. They're art. I've purchased art before. Quite a few times. And, I hung it on a wall. 10 years later, I got bored of it and replaced it. I'm not going to spend 60 years looking at the exact same painting on the wall. On a tangent for a moment, why the hell would someone get a tattoo where they can't even see it on themselves? And, I agree with the comment above about a bumper sticker on a Bentley.

Anyway, the reason I decided to post in this thread: I worked at the pizza shop tonight. Welfare checks came out today. The number of females with visible tattoos was unusually high. Just sayin' - there seems to be some correlation with class & tattoos.

Wow, news to me, I thought those were called a "moron" :colbert:

I just got my first tattoo a few months ago, I'm 29. I'll probably get a few more. Tattoos on chicks are hot, my wife has a few.

i wouldnt care if my SO had one...but i dont understand them myself. what is the point? seems like an attention seeking type thing.

It is not "judging" as you put it. It is making a determination of who you believe I am based on what I choose to wear or how I choose to cut my hair.

Do you look at a clean cut man in a suit and an scruffy-bearded man wearing dirty shorts and t-shirt and not "judge" or determine them (at least in your mind) as being different from each other?

I know more than a few attorneys (and doctors) with tattoos.

I hate tattoos on my partners skin. I have none and I never will.

I dislike tattoos in general. Will never have one and thank goodness my wife agrees and doesn't have one. If people want them though, it's up to them. A small one isn't so bad but the people who have entire body parts (or entire body) covered...well, that's just shitty.

Tattoos on chicks are hot. They're an instant conversation piece and I'll bet most women would love to talk about their own art.

I, myself will never get one. It's getting to be that everyone has tattoos and you stand out more if you DON'T have one. I could never decide on a design I'd want to be associated with me for the rest of my life.

But on women? Bring it on!

A lot of women are doing the diamond stud in the nose thing. Goes back to what I was saying earlier about the "monkey see monkey do" mentality when it comes to tattoos and piercings. Sheep following sheep.

Personally I don't like tattoos, but even as I am an old fogie, I try to remember, that every generation adopts their own modes of dress and style to rebel against their parents.

As various modes of dress and style come in and out of fashion over a period of 100 of years. But my main per peeves now are tongue and nose piercings that look far more gross to me. Not to mention the auto parts clerk with split ears.

That does not dispute my point at all.

MotionMan

so your point is that people who get tattoos have the type of personality that has the propensity to get tattooed and you don't like this type of personality/personal preference whether or not they have tattoos?

The FBI used to profile with tats. If a dead woman with tats was found they knew there was a 90% chance she was a prostitute or drug addict. Tats look like graffiti to me. People would not pay $10 for a drawing of a skull but people will pay $100 to have someone draw the same skull on their skin. Makes no sense.

Now I see more and more guys with plugs and stretched ear lobes. Its like people are going back to a tribal condition. One day I was at the beach and saw all these "Jersey Shore" types there with tats and piercings etc and they looked like the Indians in the paintings of settlers. None of this can be a good sign.
