If you have/haven't, feel free to post about why.
My reason

In all fairness, however, if there was a place where I could donate my money and it guaranteed that it only went to a certain group of people (the North Americans and Europeans), I would. Most of the money we send to 3rd world nations gets stolen by the dictators who run them so that's a waste. It's similar to funding their regimes.

Well you invest in oil so you should know how its like for our hard earned dollars to end up "stolen". Tax breaks for all the multi billion dollar oil companies, HA! But anything for a profit right Halos?

Haven't yet. Making all the end of the year donations today and tomorrow. Trying to figure out what we can afford. Probably $50-100. I don't generally like to give to big global/national charities, I prefer to invest in local charities and families. But for large events like this I feel it is my duty as a citizen of the world. This coming from a neocon.

Yeah, I suppose they were going to send their troops to Iraq?? What use would these contries have in trying to give anything to the US? That would be like me giving Bill Gates $50 because his cat died. Compare apples and apples. The US's "Time of need" was almost nothing compared to the effects that these countries are feeling due to the Tsunami's.

And as for this statement:

I never said that he would be. But you are making it sound as though I am sinning because I am choosing not to help.

I kind of think based on your attitude you just may be.

Edit: This shouldn't be a neocon/liberal issue, just a humane one.

rationalizations sure help to assuage feelings of guilt.
same process works for denying homeless beggars, i bet.

Not yet, but the reson is I'm really not sure where. And considering the size and scope of this, I just KNOW there will be some kinda of fundraiser that'll occur at my school once school starts in a week so I'll just go to that and hopefully donate 20 dollars or so. Anyone who might wanna bash me, its what i can afford and you should be happy that atlesat I want to donate/care :p So I don't want no UN finger at me ;)

I heard (I think on TV) that Americares might be a good way to donate. Reasons:

1. They are US based, so your donation is tax deductible. Fact is, if you donate to the Red Cross International Relief Fund (or whatever they call that), it's NOT tax deductible! Can you imagine that?

2. I think they said if you donate to their Tsunami relief fund, very close to 100% (if not 100%) of your donation will actually go to the victims. Many relief agencies have a hefty cut before they forward relief to victims.

Anybody comment on this?

I made a vow that if I won an appeal I made to get denied unemployment benefits, I'd donate $25 toward Tsunami victims' relief, and I'm gonna do it. I won! :D It wasn't much ($100 - $200, I figure).

Some first reports of the disaster were pretty understated: This will blow your mind!
